Hyne 1.8 released !

Changelog

  • FF8 Steam support (see more infos below)
  • Adding "New window" option
  • [Battle Editor] Monster kills value is computed automatically by default
  • Bug: removed ff8 PC save files was not correctly deleted on disk
  • Japanese translation updated
  • Minor changes

About Steam support

In FF8 PC 2013, saves are located in "%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Square Enix\FINAL FANTASY VIII Steam\user_*\", you can edit *.ff8 files with Hyne 1.8 and the metadata.xml file will be automatically updated.
Hyne can also open slots, like the standard FF8 PC version. If you have two versions of FF8 installed, you can choose your version in "Settings -> PC Version".

There is just one thing. I downloaded it and tried it out, but when i am trying to load my save file, the launcher has deleted it...

Is there any way to disable this horrible Square-Enix launcher?

Well, I'm afraid I do not have a solution yet. You can maybe disable Cloud saves (game properties in Steam).

No, this is not a joke, I found a [insert some synonyms for 'stupid' here] bug which cause a bad update of the metadata.xml file. So please update if you use the 1.8 version.

Normally modified FF8 Steam save files are not deleted anymore.

Ill have the Linux Version will be up sometime today . the Mac os version will also be up today as long as my machine behaves itself.

thanks for the update, but for some reason 1.8.1 keeps crashing when loading epsxe .mcr files with FF8 saves on them. Any idea why? 1.7 works just fine, tested on 7 and XP
 
For those of you using hyne on linux (and not using my ppa)

here is tarball with the 32-bit and 64-bit linux builds containg the binaries and the translation files. if you have Qt 4.8+ on your system it should work just fine.

Running linux here, thanks for keeping those updated!

(I'm not running/testing the binaries though, I want to complete all achievements first. Damn those 10'000 kills...)

are you using the ppa, if not why? if so daily or stable?
 
There is a bug with the max (255 magic) implementation -
Setting 255 of magic in the editor and the result in game.
I attempted to share a portion of magic across characters, as you can see the amount is quite incorrect and has the additional effect of breaking magic casting in combat.

once again thanks for the update myst6re, but my ffviii still delete the save file after being edited, can you help me with this problem?(ffviii steam version 2013)

Using a save editor is not a safe action, you should know that, but I can limit this amount in standard mode.

I currently work on an 1.8.2 version which may resolve some related problems. Do you have a "user_[some_numbers]" directory in "%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Square Enix\FINAL FANTASY VIII Steam"? Have you several "FINAL FANTASY VIII" entries in the uninstall program list?
 
Thanks for the reply myst6re and no, i don't have any user name and stuff like that. But no worries myst6re, i've just found out an alternative way to make the game not delete my save game. I use these steps to make edited file playable without being deleted, in case you need it:
1. Edit the save file and save as normal
2. Make a copy of the save you just edited to somewhere else.
3. After the intro square soft, square enix, the edited save file will be deleted.
4. Alt + tab out of the game, copy the save in step 2 to the  "%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Square Enix\FINAL FANTASY VIII Steam".
5. PLAY the edited save file.

Anyway, I know why you don't have the user directory, and I think that Hyne 1.8.2 will work with your version of FF8.
