I have contacted NVidia customer care about this issue on 04/21/2007. After some talk, the last answer I got yesterday was:
Hello Benjamin,
We'll have to research this and keep you posted if we find anything.

Best regards,
David
I also pointed out what borde said, that it could be a vertex shader issue. Maybe they'll fix this with a future forceware version if the 8xxx GPU is not the problem.

Has anyone tried just running Virtual PC and seeing if there is some kind of way to make the older graphics card drivers work? Call me a n00b but I obviously have no idea how drivers and hardware work. Im sure most of us run a sweet enuff rig to easily run a shell OS and play the game in there is this idea is possible?

Oh poo! Lol sorry not used any virtualisation software before you see. What about booting off a removable disc or separate HD into 98 or something similar then? I realy dont want to buy the psx version and running an emulator because obviously you can get much better tweaks and everything in the PC version. Plus I always played it on the PC.

Getting the game to run on XP is no problem anymore (or did you have vista in mind?) and the corruptions we are talking about here will not be gone if you boot the same machine into Win98 (are there any drivers for the 8800 for Win9x systems anyway?). So this wouldn't do any good.
However, I thought about buying a Voodoo1 Addon card for PCI slots on ebay. Since my TFT has DVI and Vga connectors, I'd need no loop cable and this should work at the side of my main video card that has only DVI. But this is no elegant solution at all, because it is additional hardware, it blocks one pci slot (I only have two of those precious old things), not everyone has a monitor that has two input connectors and there will not be an endless supply of old PCI accelerators.

Hmmmm as much as its a cool idea I can't really as my motherboard has 2 PCI's, 1 of which gets covered by my chunky ass 8800. The other has my wireless PCI card in it and all ive got after that are 2 PCI-E x 1 slots.

I suppose there is the alternative of playing on my mum's piece of crap downstairs. She runs Vista I think has integrated graphics on a P4 2ghz 478 skt. If i get a PCI card for that it might just workies.

Hey guys just to let you know, Ive installed the game and the graphics in battle, on the map and walking round northern crater are fine for me (apart from in the highwind theres no moving sky when you look out the front of the ship, meh). Granted I need to explore fully to see if i come accross any errors. All I did was install the 1.02 patch, the movie player off the install disc and the upside down movie patch (coz my movies didnt work at first).

Are you talking about "your mum's piece of crap" or are you talking about your Geforce 8800 rig?
If so, what forceware version are you using?

Oh sorry yeah I'm talking about my rig with the 8800 on it. Got the high res patch and gonna put the reunion patch on now (still got it from ages ago)

Nvidia Geforce 8800GTS 640MB

It's strange.....but it's a solution!  :-D

My pc:  Conroe 6600, 2 GB ram, 8800GTS 640 MB.

WHAT is a solution? Runnin the game in vista?
What kind of AA did you use? Supersampling, Multisampling or Coverage Sampling?

well i run x64 vista and it works so x86 isnt really a solution. Plus does Anisotropic filtering REALLY make a difference on a game like FF7? and AAx16 surely isnt going to make very much diff at all when i got it at a decent res.

yes...Vista!  :-D

AA is the max possible forced by drivers (Coverage sample 16xQ) + trasparency supersampling and AF 16x.
