dammit, i gotta learn to model then, i told myself i would learn a long time ago but like most of my endeavors, nothing came of it, but i promise i'm gonna give it my all with blender now so i could help with this no matter how long it takes.JUST WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM!!!!!
 
PRP doesn't really require much of any modeling knowledge... just Kimera knowledge.  But with everyone making higher poly count models that are nicely textured... it makes me wonder if this project may as well be halted
 
well i really wanna make my own models with blender since seeing everyone's contribution has me feeling inferior, so since i have absolutely no knowledge of 3d modelling( only some in 2d animation which doesn't count) i gnna read the "blender noobs to pro" wiki book to get started and providing school doesn't kill me i'm gonna try modding for myself.
 
Actually, most of the job can be done by reusing the same models again and again, and they're already done. But there are many files to replace, many textures to adjust, and some new models from PRP are... almost as blocky as those from the original files.

For the sake of compatibility, the installer should modify the existing files instead of creating new ones, but PRP's authors didn't choose this way only for fun. I don't remember why it had to be done that way.
 
The flashing materia will be fixed on the next release.  I'm also planning to make the installer myself so it will be totally user friendly.. in fact I intand to do it so that the user won't even have to do anything all will be done automatically.  I didn't talk to ice cold about it yet but I don't think he would mind.
Anyone know what happened to him?

No, this should not be thrown away.  Please any of the original authors your work was not a waste.  This will be the best field model mod.  Why?
Because it doesn't have high poly counts.  It fits in with the old backgrounds and it looks the way the game should have looked in the first place.
I don't understand why people are working so hard to get the main cast and weapons to look the absolute best they can when they could be working on this and actually finishing it.
Those other models they don't fit, at all.  They look silly to be honest.  Let's look at it the other way around, ridiculously amazing pre-rendered backgrounds with lego looking models like the original.  That wouldn't fit either.  You're remaking one aspect of the entire game.

Honestly I would rather play with the lego looking ones than the injected Advent Children ones.  And Advent Children sucks by the way.

Some of you may say well we'll just have to update the backgrounds.  But think about how long that would take or if it would ever be finished.  Look at this one, how many years has it been?  And this is much easier.

And you talented people who aren't working on this should think about what I've said.  You could actually finish this and perfect it.

To Ice Cold, you seem to be the only one left.  Don't give up on this man.  You've come too far.

I agree with changeling, this is an epic project that should definitely be finished. :lol: i mean the hi res models are nice and all but i don't think it's possible to make all the models hi res( while i'm still able to walk anyway) and this project just fits the game very nicely.

I love Final Fantasy.  And it will never be what it used to be.  I mean besides the remakes on the DS I haven't seen much good come from the franchise in almost ten years.  Once they start making Hollywood movies and sh*t a Japanese video game franchise starts to go way down.  Take Resident Evil and Silent Hill for example.  They start to milk it for everything it's worth and start radically changing the formula.  Considering how many games they've released changing the formula does make sense, but XII was very disappointing.  I don't know about XIII but it reminds me of Japanese pop music.  Free falling from airplanes and action packed cutscenes...I don't know.

That's why we do this.  Even if they remake VII on the PS3 it will never be as good as this one.  Not just because of nostalgia either.  The reason why the DS remakes have been good is because they stuck very close to the original concept and art design.  I know what they would turn VII into, just look at Advent Children and you'll see.

Between Aali's new plugin and this it would be perfect.

Anyway that's the end of my long ranting speech.  If I knew the first thing about modeling I would help, but I don't.  I am willing to learn though.
Right now I'm working on the script for VI...again.

well TA is trying to facelift the game whilst staying true to the original art style. and yes, remaking all the backgrounds will take a long time, but thats no reason to feel down. pick up a 3d ap n help out, its that hard, just gotta put in a lil time! The more people we have, the faster it goes.
 
It will never be finished.  There will always be something more appealing to the eye, and that project will be abandoned.  This is the face lift, the other ones would have to lead to a complete overhaul.

well i dunno bout you, but i'm not too fond of 320x240 backgrounds blown up to 1600x1200 :P

btw, optimism for the win, if you dont want in fine, but no reason to assume we'll give up
 
He's right, it will likely be abandoned.  Repeatedly.  But I like to think eventually it will be completed by someone.
 
i wanna help out desperately but i've only got weekends to spend learning blender, since school is rulling most of my life even though i've just got 1 year to go. So hopefully someday i can help with the whole overhaul thing. and  i really hope the ff6 thing gets completed

Seriously guys.  Why nay say?  So far the graphical overhaul has picked up so much momentum and accomplished so much that there really isn't a reason this wouldn't get done too.  When Summer comes I'll start learning my way around texturing since that's what the project is short on.  Right now in terms of actual noticeable difference the GO is winning the mod battle.

Don't be a douche. If you'd prefer for the game to look balanced, then that's fine. It's perfectly easy to only install or work on the mods that you think are best for the game, there's no need to say discouraging things like:

Now I agree that this mod shouldn't be abandoned or forgotten, as it was pretty much *the* most arduous task taken up in terms of modding FF7 at the time. I feel like it's projects like this that put the idea in a lot of people's heads that things like the Team Avalanche Overhaul can be accomplished and I definitely don't approve of people down-talking it.

Also, you may not have implied this but I just wanted to clarify that none of the models in the Team Avalanche Overhaul adhere to advent children styles and never will (afaik), and yes the mod does only redo part of the game graphically, but it's still a WIP. Even if it never gets done, Team Avalanche intends to redo every low-res aspect of the game.
 
To list those :P

all models, this includes characters, vehicles, enemies, world map stuffs (the buildings, i dont think we can change the ground mesh) the weapons, even spells which have 3d components, summons.

All of these will be textured.

Additionally, we intend to remake all the prerendered backgrounds, and with those, the FMVs.

All magic textures (most of those are done)

All of these things are made to look just like the originals in terms of style, but use current day technology to make them at higher qualitiy, for example, we do not have the same restrictions on disc space, images don't have to be 8 bit, and models can make use of many more polygons.

Yes, this will take ages. but hey! its fun!
 
Although I stated on the stickied topics that the PRP's development is discontinued, I still hope it will get finished - as it is, it's the first mod I try to get working everytime I've played FF7 for at least 2 years. Most of the characters look thinner, less blocky - it may not be finished but it's still one of the main and most accomplished mod we have here.

PS: TA should get together some of their files to show us what is done, I didn't find much except here.
 
most (if not all) the GUI has been remade at a higher resolution (staying true to original design) think most of the magic/special effects, 90% of the world map (not even an exaggeration) an entire Barret Model, Soon to be all of clouds weapons, and Tifa (she's been modeled. just needs a texture) and i think one BG scene. if you look on the TA forum you'll find screen shots. Mind you thats all thats finished.

Awaiting textures we have: a second BG scene (soon a third) most of the main cast (Cloud, Cid, and Sephiroth are missing for main playable NPC, vincent in the works) So, if you know any texture artists please. for the love of all that is holy. Send them our way :D
 
good god, im new to the board i must say, i checked in here 3 years ago to see if the game had been modded and its still not done lol....

Please dont flame i do not mean it in a bad way or anything. but i am curious what is going on with the modding how many projects are there and is this the main one ?
