Have encountered an ERROR: could not open file .\Data\music\wind.wav
This happens at start of the snowboarding minigame right before The Great Glacier. I know, many people had been complaining about this file, so... Just in case: here are APP.LOG and the save file.

BTW, I have searched the forum and found out that I'm not the only one with the refresh rate problem.

As I understood it, he wants a framelimiter that isn't based on vsync. Apparently he still gets his 85hz.

That app.log link is a 404 and the wind.wav bug has been fixed since 0.7.8b.

Removed native PNG support, noone was using it anyway and there are better ways to load PNGs now.

just wondering what method your refering to. Do you mean the old method of hacking .tex files via hex-editor? or do you mean directly placing PNGs into the LGPs(which is hokey but a good way to test battle arenas quickly).

Before you could simply replace a tex file with a png file and the game would be able to load it. But it breaks things (PNGs dont have palettes) and since the game insists on reloading everything for every scene it would get pretty slow if you replaced alot of stuff that way.

ok, was just curious. Guess it's back to hacking TEX files to load battle field textures until support for them is properly implemented.

just use modpath

Some posts later he tells that in fullscreen  mode the game always runs in 60Hz no matter what. He avoided 60Hz by playing in window mode instead of switching to 85Hz every time. So I'm sure Kein has exactly the same problem as me.

Strange, must be a glitch of the hosting server or something else.  It's a direct link, just rightclick and save as... Looks like it isn't related to your driver since I don't hear this sound in game with original renderers either. But it's a bug anyway since the file is OK.

Huh? The problem with battle stage textures is fixed in 0.7.9b...
never mind, ignore that fool sitting wayyyy in the back :) i wasn't aware it had been fixed since it did not appear in the version changes you posted in the other thread.

*Sigh*, I should have known these fancy shaders would break alot of sh*tty drivers..
Just an FYI, I get the shader error on ff8, and I have a GTX 470 with the latest nvidia drivers (260.89).

This update doesn't seem to touchup FF8 much , so I'll just list some of the issues mentioned in the previous thread, so they are not lost and forgotten:

- show_fps doesn't work on my ff8.
- The battle transitions are just thin black lines.
- Squall doesn't have a shadow on the world map.
- At the very start of the game, when Elone talks to Squall, you can't see the glass.
- The game seems to be running faster than usual on my PC, I checked with Fraps and it says 31fps, and battles are 16fps.
- In battle, there appears to be feint blue boxes around the 'dust' that is kicked up when characters run.

If you need any more information, let me know.

May be a good idea to have a 'known issues' list.

Cool, I run 260.89 too on a GTX 260 where it does work without problems. I guess I'll just go ahead and add nvidia to the list of shitty drivers.

I'm aware of those issues and a whole bunch of other ones.. They're difficult to figure out and solve without causing other issues and there are other things that are perhaps more important to fix in FF8. FF8 in general is less "friendly" to the driver, not exposing alot of would-be useful information and using some fancy tricks that were never used in FF7.
I did take the time to implement support for other languages though, it will be in the next release, with any luck all 6 languages, nvidia and non-nvidia versions will work. Not that it matters whether you have the nvidia patch or not, the driver cancels it out anyway but I started supporting both versions so now there's no point in cutting support for one of them.

The latest Nvidia drivers are 260.99, maybe you should try them out.

Can anybody confirm/disconfirm the wind.wav error at start of The Great Glacier snowboarding minigame with the save file I have provided earlier?

Yeah, apparently the ff7music plugin is broken for me (using WINE on OS X), and 0.7.9 refuses to load an older version of the plugin.

I installed the game, installed the 1.02 patch, played to the first save so I have the input file and a save file, copied the save file to have 00-09, and copied in all the aali’s files, but when I click on the config file I don’t get the message. I decided to try it out anyway. I changed the resolution, but the game still plays exactly the same. I have no idea what I did wrong.

Any ideas gentlemen? Do you think it would help if I used the remix patcher?

When you used the config did you set the renderer to custom driver?

Got a link?  I will add it to the menu project.  Still... I dont know how much Aali plans on adding to his driver.  A lot of these additions and mods could be placed into the driver options.

Ah! Thanks! I watched a tutorial video but it was too small to see that part, and the narration didn't really make it clear. Adding that step makes a lot more sense...
