AC Nero's custom start menu.

i think the transparent backgrounds look very good, i was actually thinking of doing it with the stock avatars.  As far as the start screen goes, you have to make a black 0,0,0 box where the new game and continue words will appear.  Kinda sucks, but it's all we have until someone steps up to remake the start screen.  I'd like to see a full screen version of what you have made.

I think i know how to fix the problem of the text. Post a copy of your background so I can test it out

You can use img2tex on the start screen for transparency. Just leave the section for new game/continue black. The problem making a full start screen picture look good is that new game/continue is off center to balance out the original buster art. So any custom menu needs to take that into account. Here's how I worked around this limitation.

hi! where can i get those images? i mean your source... i want use them as wallpapers... they are posters from the 10th anniversary party right? are there any clear scans, without watermark or anything? can you please give me the link? or send it to me thru email?

No argue on that, they do look cool as transparent, but what I mean is that the CG characters are so much detailed that when they are placed by themselves they look kind of out of place on that menu (probably on a compete black and white menu with the material and letters colures at tones of grey they would look properly) plus without the white background they won’t look any more as a whole. Also I don’t like the way some parts of their bodies are suddenly sliced off when they are just by themselves, but from the other hand with the white fonts they look more like they are in a frame maybe more artistic perhaps, especially Sephiroth with the shadow of his black wing behind him (avatars were originally made to look like portraits after all). Perhaps the transparency will look better on the original avatars but I don’t really think it would fit to the CGs, but then again that’s just my opinion, so no offence to anyone. :-)
Block borders and rounded corners? That might add a smooth twist.

Excellent avatars by the way, though I think perhaps there's a little too much white space on the right for Choco.

I did the original avatars with a transparent background and they do not look that great
 
Yes Squaresoft originally designed the avatars without transparency so I guess they would know better.
 
Since the selection menu was getting in the way I tried a different way of approach, so feel free to let me know of what you think of it (however the fact that I cannot have a full screen menu still bothers me)

Anyways, I don't think that full screen thing can be accomplished, AFAIK.
 
Nero I love your solution it is very creative.

Aali how did you do that. I would assume you hex edited the .exe, but I don't really know. All I really know is I want the ability to do that.

Ya. Same here. I got a nice background image that I would like to use for it.
 
I hacked it into the custom driver. Whenever the buster sword is replaced by an external texture it will cover the entire screen and sit behind the menu.
Now I just need to get the next release together.. Which might be a while.

Thirded. The impossibility of putting the menu on top of the background image, forcing people to use an image that only takes up a bit of the screen and leaves the rest black, has greatly limited the kinds of custom menu backgrounds we can have; now, we can have full screen images in the background.

Well not yet. But we will soon when the update on that custom driver is integrated on there.
 
That’s great to hear, I was kinda disappointed when I realized that I had to limit the start menu to a small part of the screen but finally we are going to have full screen backgrounds. Thanks Aali, can’t wait too for your next release. Well in the meantime here are two more the old way, one with AC Cloud and another more close to the original buster sword screen:

looks good,,,  concept is awesome ,but i have only one suggestion,, the color of the logo of ff7(in white portion does not fit to the sky) looks more different to the other one,,, but it's good.. continue to create some menu staffs hopefully original ff7 concept thnx...

ADMIN EDIT: Combined a double post into one. And listen you little punk; you have broken the rules so many times I've lost count. You have at least three, if not four, user accounts waiting for approval - I'm not going to approve them, no matter how many of them you make. You have one account already, use it.

Instead, I'm going to stop approving all accounts that I suspect to originate from your ISP. There's already one - I can't be sure whether it's someone else, or you with a new IP, so I'm just never going to approve of it. Tough luck.
