An alternate view - Which NPCs should have been playable?

Which non-playable characters do you think should have been playable? Why? Please expand who they are for those who don't remember.

Personally, I really liked Nida. Gets promoted as SeeD as the same time as Squall/Zell/Selphie, and pilots the Balamb Garden after they crashed into FH. I really liked him, and would have liked him as a playable character (on my first playthrough, I thought he would, since we were promoted at the same time).

What about you?
 
I always thought it would have been cool to have the other members of Avalanche (Biggs, Wedge, Jessie) playable for the first bombing missions (Sector 1 and 5) - which would also give more desire to avenge them. It could also have been fun to integrate turks in the party during the Don Corneo sidequest in Wutai.
 
A friend of mine said he would have loved having General Leo playable for much longer in FFVI.
 
Air Buster and Bottomswell; I would pay money to see those two team up for their own buddy-cop mini-series, solving crimes and supporting each other to overcome life's challenges like fitting into small doorways.
 
This wasn't about the feasability of such implementations, rather than "I would have liked it to be that way".

I like the "let's play before the game happens" idea.

I would have also liked Cid, and Edea to be playable up until the end instead of just a segment. Major Caraway, too, during the Deling mission.

What would have been fun IMO is being able to change party leader in FF8, and go around without Squall.
