well we know the magic pots provide lots of ap, so i guess thats how the materia was levelled up sure was good to watch.

question tho, do the hero potions really add hundreds of ability pints and allow total above 255?

also I didnt know attack and defense points made that much difference, how much difference does +1 strength give to damage and does +1 on weapon strength same as character strength?

Well its something like hero potion increases stats by 50% so two hero potions is an 100% increase in those stats.
the +1 attack points Qs are more like saying +1 on the weapon adds to ur attack statistic base points, so if u got 30 attack, then get a weapon with 10 attack points, then you have 40 attack points.
Now take away any -attack points from materia  and that makes the final amount which appears in your status screen.
Now i think its something like the amount of defense points your opponent has comes into play.
Take your enemy's defense points from your attack points that gives you your current attack rating (on that one enemy), then other factors come into play like status, weapon type, etc then you do something like times it by your level??

Ok well few things I dont get

"After two Hero Drinks, Barret has 408 Str and Spr. His base damage is thus 19338. Angermax does 1/2 of Base Damage (9669), and Emerald Weapon has 180 Def, so that drops the damage to 5877 to 6269 per hit of Angermax."

spr=spirit i think

so spirit affects attack damage? and where did this 19338 figure come from heh.

Now I know from earlier on in the game that +1 defense point deducts 1 damage cause I had 1 character with 5 more defense than cloud and he took 5 less damage so I assumed the most damage possible you can deduct from a attack is 255 and defense % was much more effective.  But looking at these figures its stating 180 defence is the equivalent to 5877 ???, also I dont know how the luck was worked out, because I know late game my characters especially with their ultimate weapons tend to get critical hit every 3 to 4 attacks at least even when in fury mode but have luck nowhere near 255, I always thought accuracy was down to the attack %.

I am probably wrong on all this but things I want to know are.

What does luck actually do
What does spirit do(defense v magic attacks?)
How do you work out attack damage
What does attack% do, I am fairly sure defense % cause enemy to miss % of times because with defense % of 50 enemy misses an awful lot.


Also like to add 9999 hp can be achieved without hp plus because barret had no magic materia on him so had no penalties on his hp bar.
 
Spirit does not effect your base damage, he quoted spr to show because the emerald weapon does attack barret and he uses the number abit further down the paragraph.
What does luck actually do
luck contributes to alot of factors, ie number of critical hits is increases, chances of missing an attack, back attacks are reduced, chances of munipulation, critical hits, etc minor details where a random factor comes into play, thats where luck stats can play a part.

Spirit is for Magical defense, simply put.
How do you work out attack damage
i dont know how terrence got those figures for base damage, he knows the formula needed to calculate this. Like I said before theres a base damage number worked out from YOUR attack stats, YOUR weapon sts, and Accesory Stats, as well as materia effects your attack. And your Enemies defense stats come into play as well.

What does attack% do,
This is your chances of hitting your opponent, I think once you get over 100% then it decides the chances of hitting a critical hit. Of course your opponent has defense % as well, that comes in as well.

But can your player reach 9999hp even at level 99? not for me, usually u will get short of 9999, like 9378 or something
 
ok thanks for your reply it is confusing, I think I know how I managed a base damage of 9999, if you have a hp plus eqquiped during the earlier levels of the character then he benefits from increased growth eg.

level 30 character
hp 3000 + level 1 hp plus = hp 3300
gets to level 31 his hp lets say normally goes up 180 so now
hp 3180 but if hp plus equipped then rise is 198 taking base to 3198 then adds 10% still so 3498 but if the materia was removed the character still has higher hp then normal.  I am sure this is how I managed 9999 without hp plus.

I agree with you on the attack % etc. but not sure about the critical hit chance when above 100%, if I equip a 255% weapon then in theory every hit should be a critical hit but isn't, however it does make deathblow always hit critical.
