Thrice is a word. And this guy also did post the same message in the "setupx.dll" thread, or whetever it is, in "General". I don't think he means to annoy us. I think he wants to do things that we're suggesting _his_ way.

And in the song, I believe they say... "Cephiros", and not Sephiroth.
 
Well, I don't know what language that is....but when you view the Translated lyrics, it says Sephiroth...and the untranslated lyrics says the same thing.

I always thought that, that was the true pronunciation of Sephiroth.
Seph-Er-oss, or "Seph-Er-ath"...whatever, it's hard to make out.

Frankly I like saying it as, "Seph-I-roth", myself.)
 
I've listened to 3 sources. I've listened to the individual samples from lb2.sf2 and it sounds like it ends with "ros". I listened to the orchestrated version..same thing. And the psf also sounds like "ros". The name of one of the midi songs included in ff7pc is named "cephiros.mid".
 
Well, it a pretty cool sounding song, regardless.

It's especially cool, when your fighting Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts. Really sets the mood. His moves, and the soundbytes, really add to that effect, as well.

I think it's pronounced like that because maybe that's how they wanted it said for all the versions(language-wise) of the game? They arranged it in Latin maybe so that for once a game wouldn't have japanese-sung words in it (chrono cross, damn them). Because isn't Latin considered the "universal language" in some ways? I mean, living things are classified using Latin words..so..

Or it just sounds cooler, because it plainly does.
 
Sephiroth's spelling is a symptom of the same thing that sparked the Aeris/Aerith debate. In Japanese, Sephiroth is written SE-FI-RO-SU, and as Jari says with a silent 'u'. This is not necessarily to indicate an 's' sound, but rather because it's the closest they have for representing an unvoiced 'th' sound. Aeris/Aerith, by comparison, is written E-A-RI-SU.

So the reason they chose Sephiroth and Aeris as the English spellings are simply because they look better than Cefiros and Earith. The chorus, however, was managed by Japanese who most likely just romanized the katakana spellings without much thought. Thus, the exact sounds might not have been entirely accurately represented to our English ears, but probably sounded fine to the Japanese.

All right, thanks Jari. I had a feeling the name was your work :)

If for the english version of the game they would have changed the lyrics to english I actually would have been a little irritated. Since it seems that what is said in the song is pretty much nonstop repeating, the song would definately get old....much faster.  Because it seems that if you listen to something you don't entirely recognize you will seem to get a better effect from it, and it will become boring (if it does) millions of times slower. Besides, the song sounds so cool in latin!
