Howdy all!  I was just trying to watch an .avi movie on my dear old computer, see, but turns out I don't have the right codec or something, which is a little odd because I've played at least one other .avi file on my computer.  So, any help, maybe link to where I could find a codec, would be really appreciated!

                                                                    Thanks!

divx is an amazing codec. i have some 75MB files that would be 400 otherwise.

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!  THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!
Sorry for that little outburst, but I'm so happy!         I downloaded Cowboy Bebop: Knocking on Heaven's Door (a movie, based on the BEST anime series ever) a long time ago,   and after waiting so long,  I can FINALLY watch it!!!  Thank you so much!!!!  Aahhh....yes.........now I sorta wish I didn't delete that se:lain episode I downloaded so long ago.....but yay!!!!!!   Thanks a lot!!!!!

Hmm... I think I'll grab that movie after I finish with Harry Potter and LOTR.

Lain: That's a STRANGE series. In many ways, stranger than End of EVA. I recommend renting it or buying it.

Oh, in case anyone cares, I just bought the Rurouni Kenshin TV DVDs Part 1 & 2 (4 DVDs Each, subtitled in English & Chinese, audio in Japanese only). Hopefully it should be here anywhere from next monday, to the monday afterwards.

Yeah... Let's get this back to being tech related or I'll move it to SPAM tomorrow.

*Hopes his DVDs are Region 1 compatible.* I think they're region X, but I'm not sure.

* Wonders what sort of person doesn't have a regionless DVD player

i shouldda gone with the apex   i can only play region 1 dvds.

*also raises his hand*
mine also has a "Select your region" built in to it  :naughty:

*Raises one hand* My family one is region 1. However, we also have 1 APEX DVD player which belongs to my brother, 2 DVD-ROM drives (can prob be region hacked w/ software), 2 PS2s, which play DVDs, and 1 DVD-R Burner which can also act as a player.

Don't understand why anyone would (knowingly) not get a region-changable DVD player, given how easy it is, here anyway.

PS2's can be region-changed fairly easily, at least here in the UK there's a software hack for them you can buy in the shops ... DVD drives, most major ones can be firmware patched.

i dont have a region free one for a simple reason. its illegal here. i guess i could swap with my ps2....

My DVD-Rom drive can change it's region up to four times before it's permanently set to that region. And they say that changing computers, or wiping/reinstalling the OS won't allow you to change it. I think it changes something on one of the ROM chips... (CenDyne DVD CD-ROM, 16x DVD 40x CD Internal IDE, in Black!)

Darkness: Illegal?! That's f*&*ed up ... since when has importing videos from other countries been a crime?

Seph3d: It stores it in the firmware so yeah, it's part of the drive. Firmware patches fix that one, of course.
