Direct X 9.0a and W2000

Has anyone tried installing FF7 on a newer machine running Windows 2000 and Direct X 9.0a?  This is my first time installing FF7 and the first problem I noticed is the intro movie doesn't play (I get a blank screen).  I don't want to downgrade to Direct X 8, so I was wondering if someone has figured out a work-around.  Thanks.
 
In Windows XP with DX 9.0a, still works great for me.
(2000 and XP seem to be similar in terms of FF7 compatibility)
 
Did you install any other patches or drivers other than Direct X 9?  I am wondering because none of the movies play for me, which I am told, is because you have to have DirectShow installed.  The latest version of DirectShow is 6.0, but I don't want to install an older version over DX9a and overwrite anything.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

You want to tell me that it formatted your disk, or damaged your partitions ? I dont see any way that normal software can erase your data.
 
no, i had to reformat, becuase after i installed it, windows wouldnt start up. it just showed the emachines logo, screen went black, and showed it again, and did that over and over and over and over again. sorry for being mad, its just i wasnt in the best mood yesturday and this post made me remember something that still ticks me off today. :(

i lost all of the stuff i worked so hard on...waaa!!! :weep:
 
AH HA! I have discovered the source of the problem!!

You are using an eMachine!!!

No, seriously, I don't think that your manufacturer should have anything to do with whether or not your comp messes up with DX9, but they use some pretty crappy hardware and I've seen it crap out several, several times.
 
i love emachines, they are great...hardware a few years ago used to be poop, but not bad now. could use an agp port for gaming but oh well.
 
Well, to get the movies to work, you can download the newer version of the Duck True Motion codec on Eidos' site and install that.  Eidos has it listed as a fix for upside down movies, but it tends to fix alot of movie related problems (including the movies not working in Win2K)

To get the game to work properly, though, you'll need to go to this page and follow the instructions there.  (It says not to use the TNT patch.  Depending on your card, you may need to use the FF7config.exe from the patch.  NEVER use the ff7.exe from the patch though)

You'll also need to download and install the chocobo patch to fix a crash at the chocobo races.
