Does Final Fantasy really mean something for number 13?

I've read somewhere that final fantasy 13 is going to be the last new final fantasy made. Can anyone confirm this?

I highly doubt it will be the last one.
 
It might be the last one, but if this is true, then it being the last one doesn't mean that it's the end of Final Fantasy. Not for a long time.

do you mean they're just gonna do endless remakes of older FFs now ?

or are they going to drop the series altogether? that would suck. FF's winning point as a series is diversity. that's hard to find elsewhere.

i find it very hard to believe anyway. to kill a golden egg laying chicken like that.
 
Okay, I looked around searching for where I found the article and re read it. Apparently it's going to be the last final fantasy directed by Nomura. So I guess it's not nearly as devastating news compared to saying it was the last numbered final fantasy.
 
Tetsuya Nomura has never directed a Final Fantasy numbered game before; Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be the first.
 
Nomura said he doesn't want to work on Final Fantasy anymore after XIII.

This is it.

But this is not the end of FF.
