Editing the Main Menu/Battle Interface in FF7

How would I go about editing data in the main menu or battle interface in FF7?
I've been playing for a few years, and am now getting into modding.
Halp?  :P

You mean like DLPB is doing? It takes a lot of exe modifying. The first step is to learn your way around a hex editor. After that, unless the specific values you're trying to change are documented (many of them aren't), it's a ton of guesswork.
 
Yeah, I was looking at DLPB's menu reconstruction, and wanted to play around with menu stuff.

So it's just trial and error?
Ooh boy, that sounds like fun.

Basically, also maybe DLPB can chime in on the method he used to figure out which hex edits were where.
 
Unfortunately it is all over the place....  WE do have documentation but a lot is all over.  I will ask kranmer what he says and if he is OK I will post our work.  I can't guarantee that it will answer all your questions, and you are better off learning proper hex editing and debugging as well.
 
It would be nice to have some documentation, just to know where to start.
Hopefully I'll be able to get something good out of this.

Well i am fine with you releasing the documents we have on editing the menu (when a project is done and dusted i am always up for sharing info, i just don't like doing so while its ongoing), although you may want to clean it up first since its all over the place, i found things as and when i needed them since originally i hadn't planned on making a project out of it, the menu project sort of started with Dan (DLPB) wanting to straighten out the status menu (and the battle interface started with Dan wanting to move the red arrows), when we started i never imagined it would be as big a project as it was.

Also i am in the middle of remodeling of the house i live in so i am not able to get online as much at this moment in time so if i am not on for a few days you all know why.
 
I certainly won't clean it up personally... Don't have the time, and let's face it is not fully documented.  People will have to do it the hard way like us I guess 8)
 
After eight hours of playing around in a hex editor, I gave up.
I really respect you guys for being able to do this.
But it's just not me, haha.
Someone can close this thread.
 
Personally, I'd really like to see some of the documentation, even if just in a scrappy, half-finished form.
 
I will post what we have tomorrow :)
