Ending the heat problems

Ok, I've got my eye set on the GlobalWin 802 ATX case, the deal comes with a Macron 300W PSU from overclockers.co.uk. Confirming will this be suitable to run my system normally, no overclocking, maybe a little on me GeForce2, but tht's not the point. Will my CPU run cooler than 50oC (running my 1700+ at 1.1ghz)? I have a 200W PSU with a shoddy case and no system fans. You might not remember my system from the other post (Thanks for the help by the way, you were great ^_^ ).

Well that's weird. Why do you want to 'underclock' your 1700+ to 1.1GHz?

50oC? You're kidding aren't you?!!

Changing PSU helps.... I changed mine from 230W to 300W, and I realised that my system is more stable.....

As for heat, I don't install any system fans, and I don't overclock more importantly, but i get around 20-30 degrees C on idle..... ^_^
If I'd to run it on full usage..... then it'll be hot.

Specs:
AMD 1.2Ghz Athlon with Taisol Fan.
300W PSU (don't know what's the name.....just changed it recently heh)

And a piece of advice:
Don't overclock your graphics card too much   :wink:

And oh..... my system could only achieve that 20 degrees on idle cuz I leave my casing open.
 
I don't want to run it at 1.1ghz. I have to. If I don't, games will crash. I've seen it reach 67oC playing Deus Ex.

then what I suggest strongly is to change your fan.
changing PSU will only help stabilise the system, not cool it   :roll:

I have changed it. It's upposed to run at 6500rpm but it manages to reach 5400rpm. It's a massive heatsink and fan recommended by AMD.
 
I totally have no idea then. One of my friend who owns a 1.33GHz Athlon also faces a similar problem, he managed to cool down the system a bit by installing multiple system fans. Anyway, just wait for replies from other experts out there.... ^_^ I'm no computer genius.....

My evercool fan cost me £20. It's the fact that it doesn't run at 6500rpm, but only at 5400rpm is the problem. Cases do cool down the PC. Better air flow means the PC will run cooler.

Whoops I though you were just changing the PSU only.... yeah changing the casing does help too.....   :cool:
Don't buy a casing which has no proper air ventilation.... choose a casing which has proper ones..... I'm sure you'll know how to do this   :D
 
Just type the model number in a search engine, such as Yahoo. And read the reviews. My HS fan runs a 4000 rpms. and average temps are in the 40's.

One other thing it could be is the Heatsink not having a good contact with the little chip. On an Athlon, the only thing that the HS is cooling is that metal part.....it' s a super small area. Your probably using the pad that came with the heatsink. For a best connection using Arctic Silver 2 Thermal Compound between the metal and the heatsink.

One more thing about new heatsinks....The Pads that come pasted to them have a transparent film over them (some come with a thermal compound that you need to apply).....your supposed to  remove the film from the pad, before installing it on the chip.), If you don't, you'll get real, real high tempertures. (don't peel-off the pad if you don't use the thermal compound. You can only use one or the other, never use the Pad and Compound at the same time)

*whispers* the answer to your problem is liquid nitrogen. run ur CPU at -17 degrees celcius. You could probably bring it up to 2.7 or so with that little warmth.

Theres always water cooling as well. somewhat loud, but 100 dollars isnt bad.

Could it be that your power supply is not delivering enough power to power everything in your case so your fan doesnt have  enough power to run at its rated speed? Also until you get your new case take all the sides and top off the chassis so its open to the air, which will help cool it down.
    A problem I found with my pc downstairs was that it had too many cards in it so the air around them heated up and didnt move which caused the whole system to overheat.
     Also Make sure your pc isnt against any wood or anything, that was the reason I couldn't play more than 10 minutes of red faction. I didnt realise until i reached down behind the pc to check all the connections to find that the wood was about 70 degrees
 
MOT has got it. Yeah, I do not have enough power. Would the 300W Macron be fine? It the one which comes in the GlobalWin package which is £73.20. If I wanted a 350W I would just buy the case for £44.65 and an Enermax PSU for £47.35. It maybe around £20 more but Enermax are nice.
Wood, my desk but it closer to the underside of the case, it never gets hot. Behind the PC, now that I have my Athlon, the PSU's churning out the pits of hell, the cannot move very well at the back.

I can't take the top my my case off, the sides yes, but there's no point taking off the other side.

Hmmm, Enermax's are nice and It might be worth the extra investment for the future if we start getting like we did a few years back, those extremely power hungry range of cards like voodoo's
 
Ok, the total has come to £92.00. Hmm, not a bad price, seeing that those Coolermaster ones are £200.
 
Just looked at that case and It is the exact one my sister has, which Is pretty cool seeing how eaily it is to get Into, £92 isnt bad since the case and PSU will last a few years
 
Wow.  I guess I'm glad I got the P4 (with its speed throttling ability) instead of the AMD, after reading about the need for cooling.  Let's see: my system, with the case on, the temperature report shown at the BIOS level of boot-up shows about 35c.  And that's with my system placed right next to a wooden desk, on carpet! (ha!)

I haven't looked at the temperture reading with the case off......

Anyway, I think the ambient temperture of the room can even be a factor.  Those people who are running systems out in the desert, with no shade from the heat, will probably have a harder time preventing overheating.  If it's possible, perhaps you ought to move the tower so an air condition vent has a straight shot at cooling the system.

My system temperature on carpet case on next to desk with wires sorted out 27c (ha) :)
 
I've decided to pay a little extra cash to get the Coolermaster Tornado case. With perhaps the Macron 300W, I don't think I can afford the Enermax 350W if I get the Tornado.
