A remake of Evil Dead? Really?

The Cabin in the Woods

It looks like Sam Raimi has nothing to do with it.
While I like Joss Whedon, I'm not too sure about this idea...

What I'd honestly rather see is a true sequel to Army of Darkness. What happened to Ash? Is he manager of the alternate S-Mart? Or savior of the alternate dimension? I guess I'll never know.

So long as the redo evil dead 2, not 1, given 2 was already a remake of evil dead 1 :P
 
Reading up on it, seems to be a similar idea, but not a proper remake, more of a homage.

Should be interesting seeing Chris Hemsworth in a horror role, Whedon sure love reusing people he's worked with before, Amy Acker from Angel and Fran Kranz from Dollhouse.

Timu, it'll depend on if it's serious or comedic to decide if it's a remake of Evil Dead or Dead by Dawn.

While ED was lame enough to warrant a spoof of itself - it actually presented interesting ideas. It seemed to break all the horror movie cliches:

- The first person to be attacked is the only girl who wasn't getting nookie that weekend. (Usually they’re the ones alive at the end.)
- Rather than running further into the house and cornering herself (a common error), she runs outside, only to find that the evil is everywhere, not just inside the house. (Especially in the trees – unless that was 2, I can’t remember).
- The second to last person to be attacked is the person responsible for unleashing the evil / and also the most annoying person in the group. (Usually they’re one of the first to go.)
- The evil doesn’t stop with sunrise. (Ash leaves the cabin, thinking it’s over when the sun comes up, only to be attacked.)
- The hero dies / no one survives.
 
The tree scene was in ED2, and man was i not expecting that in a western horror movie... damn the japanese!

btw "cabin in the woods" is iirc the opening song for evil dead the musical.

True but he will be in another of Whedon's newly announced projects along with various cast members from Buffy, Angel, Dollhouse, Firefly etc., it meant to be Shakespearian in nature.
 
I heard about his Much Ado About Nothing.

That has to be a comedy! I will happily watch that what it comes out  ;D

Much Ado About Nothing is a comedy.

As for the thread subject, the taglines kinda give the impression it's a comedy/spoof.
 
I just saw this version of this music video (I'd only ever seen a different arcade version).

It looks like someone else was trapped in the cabin, as well!
