FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test, which is scheduled to begin at 19:00 (PDT) on Aug. 31, 2010, will be postponed due to a confirmation of critical bugs. New schedule will be releaseｄ at a later date.

Along with the postponement of FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test, the issuing of registration code for FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test will be postponed as well. With the download of client software's installer, it will be suspended at 19:00 (PDT) on Aug. 31, 2010.

Appearantly their pre-beta testers weren't up to snuff with seeking out those pesky crit errors as well as they should have been.
 
I joined the open beta and got the game running on both Windows Vista and Ubuntu.

Pro tip: if the downloader seems to stall, try setting up port forwarding in your router (probably ports TCP/UDP 55296-55551, UDP 443)
 
While the rest of the world plays an open beta for FFXIV, secure in the knowledge that Square will probably reset all the characters when the game launches, and that they'll probably charge $15 a month to play, I'm having a hell of a time playing the now free-to-play Lord of the Rings Online.

Right here. First link on a google search for Lord of the Rings Online. You could have found that yourself.

I've played for a few hours so far, and it's pretty fun. Disappointingly, it seems not to give a shit about actually feeling like Lord of the Rings, introduces a bunch of new characters and cities that Tolkien never wrote, etc. Still, for those who either don't know or don't care that much about accurate lore, it's a pretty good MMO. Especially since Friday, when they made it free.
 
wonder if that will work under wine
edit: i still wonder if the game works , the downloader does not it just crashes.

Well, I'm trying out for it, (But i'm having a hell of a time waiting for the version updates to finish)
