Hi, I'm new and could use some help with my install. I have tried to follow the instructions given for installation, but my game keeps crashing in the first battle (with the 2 Shinra soldiers next to the train), usually after a couple of blows have been traded.

I installed FFVII from the install CD, into a non-system folder, C:\Games\Squaresoft, applied no other mods, then ran Bootleg from BFE, with all the mods in the same folder. Bootleg appeared to run correctly, the game starts up fine and looks good although the battle screen is all misaligned. It has crashed every time within a few seconds of the first battle starting. I've attached both the APP file and the start of the Bootleg file from the installation directory.
I have not installed any other mods, either before or after running Bootleg. I am starting the game with the Bootloader. Using the safe settings on the Bootloader don't seem to help, though I have yet to try in compatibility mode.

Could it be that I have selected a different resolution setting? (my screen is 1366 X 768 so this is the size I use) I have updated to the latest video drivers.
System info: 32 Bit Windows 7 Professional, 2GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS video card, 2.80 GHz AMD Athlon II X2 240 processor. 40GB plus free HDD space.

P.S. Sorry for not knowing how to use the forum tools and get the files to appear in a smaller box. As I said, I'm new here.

Further update. Running in compatibility mode for Windows 98 the Bootloader won't even start. Safe mode on the config file, plus all the other options checked under compatibility mode don't help (Run in 256 colours etc.) I have tried an old save game I had from another install and starting from a different place it all still works beautifully up until the first battle, then crashes. None of the other options in the bootloader regarding battle graphics seem to help.
There is also a crashdump file, not sure how to attach it here.

I am considering re-installing & re-Bootlegging, this time leaving out the Battle scene enhancement LGP and both Magochocobo LGP files to see if that works better. Anyone have other ideas?

I would suggest doing a clean install and under Bootleg options, only check Battle Scenes as PNG. Leave Battle Scenese as LGP unchecked. I've only played the opening bombing and a saved game around Wutai, but all is good for me so far.

Blueseamonkey,
Don't use the LGP textures.  Use the PNG's instead.

Drivemecrazy,
An incorrect save game will crash the game during battles.  Start a new game.  Don't use a save game from one mode-- like normal-- with another mode like hardcore.

Thanks for the hints EQ2Alyza and PitBrat. I just tried re-installing with no battle art (as I don't yet have the PNG files downloaded.)
It didn't crash and seems to be running smoothly through the battles, but all the text and graphics on the right side of the battle screen - the player names, limit break bars etc. are still very badly misaligned. I never had this problem with my previous install (where I had the avalanche GUI upgrade installed, but not the menu overhaul, I was also using an older version of the OpenGL mod.)
I'll try and add a screenshot later.

Time to start downloading the PNG battle-art files, maybe by the time they are done FacePalmer will have finally downloaded too, its been 2 days so far and is telling me at least 2 days more. The full Bootleg experience takes a while to download on a 3rd world internet connection! Looks like it will be worth it though so I will keep going. Huge thanks to all those who have contributed to these mods.

The battle text is most likely misaligned because you've enabled the 9999 break limit in ff7_opengl.cfg while also using Menu Overhaul.  Disable 9999 break limit by using the configure option in Bootloader.

Ahh, so you only need to enable it in one place? That makes sense, I wondered why I kept having to turn the option on in different places. Thank you very much PitBrat, will give that a try!

hi, i have been trying to get this to work, but i'm having trouble with running the game. i got through bootleg and everything seemed ready to go to play, but when i tried to play, it first wouldn't run in fullscreen and reverted to windowed mode. after that, i got up to the opening credit screen and pressed enter to get to the new game/continue screen but that's when it crashed. i can't figure out what the problem is can anyone help please? here's a link to my crash files: http://www.mediafire.com/?2a468osdualymb8

Lower the game resolution to 1280X960 and disable Fullscreen so that the game runs in a windows.
If that doesn't work, try running the game using the Safe Settings.
You may need to disable the compatibility settings for ff7.exe and run it as administrator.

i tried all of those and i still have the same problem.. do you think it might be the game file itself not being able to run on my computer? i haven't tried testing ff7 without mods/bootleg first so i'll try reinstalling. oh yeah btw i'm running windows 7 64 bit if that changes anything

Try 1024 x 768.  I was having the same problem but setting it to there allowed it to run Fullscreen

still nothing is working. could you try to help me figure out what's wrong with the game though? i don't care so much about playing in full screen or not, but i can't even get the game to run itself. i can get as far as the opening credits but if i try to press enter to continue to the "new game/continue" screen, the game crashes and closes. i tried uninstalling and reinstalling ff7 and running default bootleg settings but it still doesn't work. i don't know what's going on...

Try starting the game by launching FF7.exe from the installation folder.
Before you launch the game, disable compatibility mode:
   Right click on FF7.exe
   Select Properties
   Go to COMPATIBILITY
Uncheck RUN THIS PROGRAM IN COMPATIBILITY MODE

Post your system specifications for further assistance.

that didn't work either :( i'm running a Lenovo Win7 PC, AMD A4-3300M APU processor with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 1.90 GHz, 4.00 GB RAM, 64-bit OS. do i need to update my drivers/graphic card?

Lower the game resolution to 1280x960 or lower.
Disable FULLSCREEN so that the game runs in a window.

What options did you use during the Bootleg installation?
What are the first few INFO lines from Bootleg.log?
Were all of the mods present?

I used the Default Preset with a few changes:
-Cloud Battle Model: Remix APZ -> Hi-Res Classic
-Vincent: Vincent ReModel with Gun -> Vincen'ts New Boots and Rifle
-Save Point: Final Fantasy X -> No Change

And yes I have all the mods necessary. I didn't apply any other mods outside of bootleg either.

have you run the game via bootloader? i used to have the same problem.. but it fixed randomly.. it just fixed and it runs fine now

Okay I was experimenting with it and figured out that I had to switch the ff7.exe with the updated 1.02 version. I guess the bootlegger doesn't replace it on it's own. The game plays well now yay! :) Thanks for all the help.

Sahmo0e1,
Were you using any of the difficulty mods?
Menu Overhaul with ReTranslation has some trouble with Aeris Revival and Lost Wing.

Bootleg does install the 1.02 patch.  Some of the difficulty mods actually modify the .exe.  This seems to cause problems with the ReTranslation.
Your input will help me track down the conflict and implement a workaround.

first be sure you got felix's opening credits installed in the correct mod folder (Example: mods/DK/cr/). then run ff7.exe and allow the eldios and sqauresoft movies play dont skip through it. after that felix's opening credits should show up then you can skip to the new game/ continue screen. then the next time you run ff7.exe you can skip to the new game/continue screen without that crash issue
