Sahmo0e1,
Were you using any of the difficulty mods?
Menu Overhaul with ReTranslation has some trouble with Aeris Revival and Lost Wing.

Bootleg does install the 1.02 patch.  Some of the difficulty mods actually modify the .exe.  This seems to cause problems with the ReTranslation.
Your input will help me track down the conflict and implement a workaround.
I was running Vanilla with no other difficulties. I also encountered something else that sparked my curiosity.. When I first installed FF7 through the ff7install disk (C:\FFVII), I saved a copy of the game folder's contents in a zip file before modifying anything. After I tried installing Bootleg and encountered all my previous problems, I unzipped the files to another location (C:\FFVII 1.02) to try getting it to work without Bootleg. I applied the 1.02 patch and Aali custom driver and the game worked when I ran the ff7.exe file from the new folder, but I noticed that it imported settings from the Bootleg version (C:\FFVII). All the mods I applied to Bootleg appeared to work (except no background music played for some reason) while running through the "FFVII 1.02" folder. I tried to run the "FFVII" version (I tried running from ff7.exe, bootloader, start menu/desktop shortcuts, etc.) and I still experienced the same crash from my previous posts. So then that's when I tried replacing the ff7.exe file in "FFVII" with the ff7.exe file in "FFVII 1.02" and then I could play it from the bootloader from "FFVII" with all the mods working (background music too). Very interesting haha.

Also I tried doing a fresh install (after uninstalling and deleting everything) to apply different mods from Bootleg to see if they would work. I re-installed the game to C:\FFVII and again zipped the contents. However, this time when I ran Bootleg, I included the zip file in the "FFVII image path" to see how it would work.. I checked different mods this time and made sure I had them all, but this time when I ran Bootleg, it said there was an error and it wiped my FFVII folder, leaving nothing behind but BFE.exe and Bootleg.exe. All the mods I downloaded and the FFVII game files were wiped completely from my hard drive, not even moved to the trash bin. So I will have to re-download the mods again before I can try again...

Just chiming in to say I patiently await the 0039 release. I'm looking forward to playing hardcore mode again =)

sahmo0e1,
I'm trying to figure out what happened to delete all the files.  Were you installing the game into the same folder that contained the mods?  Did the destination folder and mods folder have similar names or contain spaces?  Did you change the TEMP folder?  This is a serious issue and a major inconvenience.  I definitely want to make sure it doesn't happen in future versions.

I'm still working on bug fixes.

I'm nearly finished adding another game mode, Shalua Rui.
I'm also considering adding FF7 AWESOME! even though I have mixed feeling about the subject matter.
Does anyone else have an opinion about FF7 AWESOME!?

EDIT:
I just realized that adding Shalua Rui and AWESOME has a significant impact on disk space requirements.
Each mod I include in Mode Switching required an additional 250MB of disk space.
Are these mods worth adding 500MB to a full install?

500MB is a drop in the bucket for me. It could be different for others, but I don't mind having the options if they work properly. FF7 Awesome is a little distasteful for me as well, but then again it's a video game, so I don't take it as seriously as real life. I watched some of the videos on YT that showcase it, and I did laugh at some parts.

Looks like im gonna wait for 0039 then :)
also i think ff7 awesome is well..unplayable a real bad ff7 experience not recommended for anyone, so i would say don't include it
just checked out Shalua Rui and overall..i don't think it's worth it especially the known bugs it has this mod is kinda the same as Gjoerulv hardcore mod (best by far) but not as complete it's not worth the extra space it's already big as it is lol

I vote no for both.  FF7 Awesome is just plain childish and stupid and the demand for it from the Qhimm crowd is probably in the single digits.  Shalua Rui seems to have huge bugs that would probably cause problems for other mods, is incomplete and likely never will be completed judging by the five month gap in postings, and serves the same purpose as other mods we already have.

Shalua Rui does seem to have bugs.  The patch doesn't even update the kernels as described in the readme.

With Bootleg 0038 so long as you only install Hardcore without Mode Switching, Hardcore mode works.
When Mode Switching is enabled, then Hardcore mode is broken.
I'm still tinkering with 0039.
I've identified a few more glitched field textures.
I wish there were a better way to identify glitched magic textures.
I've a very difficult time finding an offending texture's file name.

...an offending texture's file name.
I feel for you... it's such a b*ch! :D

I've added a NO CHANGE option for most of the models.
Now Bootleg won't always overwrite the existing models.
Unfortunately it's possible to install weapons models or hair styles over existing models that aren't compatible.
Because the existing models could be anything, there's no way to test for compatibility.
I hope the NO CHANGE option is more useful than confusing!

I've done a fresh install of bootleg (both from image and from full install, just to test) with Hardcore mode only and the game crashes immediately upon startup- I'm getting an "unhandled exception" error in my app.log. Anyone have any suggestions?

when i do a fresh install i remove all the files from the previous install completely out of superstition. I noticed when i did that the install process from the cds took a little longer.
also for hardcore u have to install it without mode switching, but i think u did that.

With Bootleg 0038 there are some problems when using Hardcore mode and Menu Overhaul together.
These issues are fixed for the upcoming release.
I'm currently adding options to disable installing models and to install custom models.
You'll be able to place models in a custom folder and Bootleg will install them.

Hello,

Been watching the FF7 modding for a long time, finally have everything (PC game!) to make it happen.

Did a clean install, running into an issue with bootleg that I can't seem to sort out. It gets all the way to Updating Remix files, then Repairing damaged battle models, says it copied some files, then appears to halt.

Repairing Damaged Battle Models...
8 File(s) copied
14 File(s) copied
1 File(s) copied
3 File(s) copied

It's possible I did something wrong, but unsure. Did a clean max installation. Did not install to a non-system folder, trying that next.

Brat Code: 01100601020011100011201100111

Any assistance would be appreciated. If it's just a really LOOOOOONNNG step, that would help to know as well, since I get impatient with it after about 20 minutes and try again :(

EDIT: Non-system folder made no difference. Also forgot to note: Win7 x64

Bladearrowney,
That's right where a FOR loops starts.  I'm not sure why it would freeze.  What version of win7 x64 are you using?  Home? Ultimate?

@PitBrat

Win7 x64 Professional. If it's where a loop starts, what is it looping through? I would imagine it's entirely possible I'm missing something that isn't listed as required...

EDIT: This time around, I'm going to be 100% sure that anything that could interfere have been disabled and that all RED/supported mods are in the download folder. Will try as soon as the 1280 vids finish coming down and report back...

EDIT2: Still no dice. I'll play around with it some more and see if I can't get it to work. Looking forward to next release

Hi. I've downloaded Bootleg and encountered a problem. Whenever I try to run BFE.exe nothing but a little window saying "Bootleg The Final Fantasy VII Mods Configurator by PitBrat" comes up (The actual program doesn't open).

What could be the reason to it? Please help.

I'm using Windows XP 32bit and I have SP3 installed.
