Hi all......

I'm looking to start playing FF7 again on my PC..... and remembered that once upon a time there was the remake project. Has this been terminated, or is it still ongoing?

BTW, i'm running XP Pro using a GeForce3 Ti 500 64Mb. It shouldn't be a problem running it (the processor is 2Ghz, 512Mb RDRAM PC800)

Thanks for any help guys.

It's not a remake as such, more of a prequel to Final Fantasy 7. And as far as I know, it's no way near completed  :)

I havent heard much about the remake for a long time now.

If you want to play FFVII then I suggest you get out your disks because you will have a long wait if you want to play the remake! You have Windows XP so you will most probably have loads of problems running it!

Windows XP has nothing to do with it.

Hardware issues are most of the problems, I dont have ANY problems... in software, because Edios is such a horrible company, they didnt add opengl, and they only support the cards that only people with "1995 point and click skillz!!!" have.

If anybody wants to make an ATi patch for hardware, count me in for testing... software runs perfectly, but I mean... its hideous.

Your FF7 doesn't crash at the Chocobo races? Good for you.

I don't know how many times this has been stated: Eidos was/is acting as a distributor only. Programming was done by Square. And there is OpenGL support, it just doesn't work that well.
and they only support the cards that only people with "1995 point and click skillz!!!" have.
I'm not even going to ask what this means.

It's like you completely ignored my rant, which can be seen at the top of this page where I stated some excellent suggestions, as many others did. Of course theirs were more helpful  :P

To return to the main topic:
The Remake Project is still going, however, there haven't been many updates the last few months. As you might have reognized, our engine coder (ficedula) is very busy at the time, so he's not able to continue his work at the moment. As for other remake related software, such as ultima, there is not much progress, too, since I have to do many other things right now...
As for the storyline: There is not much progress, too, since I haven't seen Sephiroth 3D for a long time, I don't think that there will be any big progress in the near future...

The Remake Project hasn't been and will not be terminated, however, we're having a break right now :D
But I'm sure that the Project will continue soon...

Sorry to disapoint you but it does use opengl.

I've checked it with dependancy walker, can do it with dumpbin as well but don't have the required library anymore. Dependancy walker reports that it imports glu32.dll and opengl32.dll (amongst others).

Why wait for the remake to be finished? All you need is a few action firuges and some imagination and you can make the coolest RPG ever!
Take That Sephiroth! Sailor Moon just defeated you and now she's gonna celebrate with Solid Snake!

your just jealous......ah well..

Avatars seem to be a hot topic on this board.... pretty soon we'll all lose ours.... which will suck as I love mine.

Yeah, even though in the past you've been warned of large avatar use, you still continue to use them to this day.

[bitchy moderator mode]oglsmm, your avatar weighs 190 KB, about 19 times the 10 KB that is the maximum allowed. Make it smaller, or get rid of it.[/bitchy moderator mode]

Yes, metatags are largely ignored by search engines these days, but nobody said that you couldn't use some other means of baiting; like <div> which has a nice description of the site and is at the beginning (where search engines usually look) of the HTML source , but it's either invisible by some means (visibility: hidden, or some z-indez trick for example), or it's rendered to a completely different location where it doesn't interfere, or is actually part of the design (with position: absolute).

Mofokubuk and myself were banned from using them without warning. Consider yourself lucky.

Translation: Fuck off

He did change it. oglsmm's previous avatar was 190KB, this is about 5KB.

Bloody hell, how many warnings do you need?!

At least Mofokubik should know the limits quite well, and I would be very surprised if you didn't know them as well.

There's absolutely no point in warning people who already know that they are breaking the rules (and hence are doing it on purpose), because they obviously are either:

a) Challenging the authority of moderators or administrators on purpose.

b) Trying to use the warning-before-ban thing to their advantage by using obnoxiously large avatars, and taking them down when they get warned. Thus they get to keep their avatars until moderator/administrator bothers to warn them, yet again.

c) Simply ignoring the rules.

d) Too thick to understand the rules.

All four options easily being good enough reason to ban that person from using avatars, IMO. Or for some other punishment, which could be much more severe (FYI: avatar ban for Mofokubik and Rubicant wasn't my first choice), oglsmm's "pretty soon we'll all lose ours" is a pretty good guess.

I don't know if it's because I'm quite a bit older than average poster here, or because I've had the pleasure of getting to know military discipline, with collective punishments and other cool stuff, but in any case my tolerance for pre-schoolish stunts (like this idea of using sex offender mug shots as avatars @ fscking 144x193, no less (that's 4 times the 80x80, or almost 8 times 60x60)), teenage angst, and other such stuff is exceptionally low. In other words; you do not want to annoy me.

If someone hasn't figured it out (or doesn't know) yet; I'm behind the punishment, I pretty much pressured Qhimm to do what he did, using my position as bargaining chip. For slower people: I said that I would leave, once and for all, if there was no punishment. Although there's another side to this coin as well; I wouldn't have left if I didn't get my wish, I would have left because the situation would have been something that I'm not willing to tolerate (like I said when I demanded punishment; I will not moderate a kindergarten). So, no need to be angry at Qhimm, it wasn't his idea.

Had the avatars been smaller than truly outrageous 144x193: I probably would have just warned Mofokubik and Rubicant. Had one of them been someone else than Mofokubik (who has already had a plenty of issues with avatar size and respect for authority) I probably would have just warned Rubicant and the other person.

These forums are moderated in relatively relaxed manner; very few persons have been banned, moderators move threads to correct forums (instead of closing them altogether), newbies don't usually get chewn up for asking FAQ stuff, posting links to copyrighted material usually leads to getting the links removed (instead of user getting banned, or thread deleted) and so on.

This is partly due to 'lowish' member count (remember, there's no pruning, there are lot less active members than registed members), and partly due to the fact that most members seem to be fairly bright, and seem to know basic rules of conduct. BTW, possibly for these reasons this forum is on my TOP-2 list, and quite possibly the best forum I've ever visited.

However, even this forum has rules, and they will be enforced. Because a rule without enforcement is no rule at all. These rules exist and are enforced so that this forum would be a better place for everyone. If you can't or won't obey these rules you are free to leave. If you break the rules, expect to be punished.

....else than Mofokubik (who has already had a plenty of issues with avatar size and respect for authority) I probably would have just warned Rubicant and the other person.

I dont have any disrespect for authority. And no, I dont know the limits, because back when I still have my ed avatar, it was still smaller in size and weight than some of the other board members avatars. I already know you have something against me but dont take it out on rubicant.

He did change it. oglsmm's previous avatar was 190KB, this is about 5KB.

I did change mine back as well. Right when Aaron asked me. In fact, my old one was set as my avatar when you banned me. But keep in mind that you, Jari Huttunen, who is so shook up over avatar use, never gave us any word about the punishment before it was set into place. I had to drag all the answers out of Qhimm, who was a great help.

Jeez, didn't you read the PM I sent you. It's all there!

I understand your frustrations against overly large avatars. I'll admit there was no need for mofokubik and myself to put up fairly large avatars, but this was my very first offense of the sort. I know that you and Mofokubik have locked horns in the past, as you and I have, but don't you think my banning from using avatars is a little...unnecessary? My large avatar was up for about 5 hours. Aaron asked me to take it down, and I complied immediately. Mofokubik kept his up until "morning", and then awhile later we were removed of our avatar rights. Now, I'm not judging your feelings towards this, but I'd just like you to answer this:

Would you have cared as much if I had acted alone, with no Mofokubik?

Qhimm told me about how you were angry enough to resign your moderator position because of this, so this seems like a pretty big deal to you. Anyways, I'm sorry I may have caused you to get angry over all this.

Sure, we do know all about the avatar rules. We thought it would be kind of funny to show off our favorite freaks. Maybe putting them as our avatars wasn't the greatest idea considering we could've made a thread. However, we cannot change the past. My main point: Why does this have to be permanent? I think I've learned my lesson not to annoy you.

Oh, and thank you for answering my question about Mofokubik.

I dont have any disrespect for authority.
You did nothing when I repeatedly told you that your avatar was oversized.
And no, I dont know the limits, because back when I still have my ed avatar, it was still smaller in size and weight than some of the other board members avatars.
For example, avatar control panel states that: "Only one image can be displayed at a time, its width can be no greater than 60 pixels, the height no greater than 60 pixels, and the file size no more than 6 KB." Do you problems understanding written text?

That's the pre-school attitude right here: "Someone else has avatar larger than 60x60, that means that I must have one too!".
I already know you have something against me but dont take it out on rubicant.
Yes, I consider you to be a spoiled little brat who has no respect for authority, you are right about that.

Maybe you should have thought of the consequences (on Rubicant) before you had your great idea, since you "already know you have something against me".

I did change mine back as well. Right when Aaron asked me.
Yes, I'm aware of that. Read option b) from my post above.
But keep in mind that you, Jari Huttunen, who is so shook up over avatar use, never gave us any word about the punishment before it was set into place.
True. As I've said before, since the offense was obviously intentional, and particularly serious (read: avatar = gigantic), I considered your actions being one of the options mentioned in my post above. All of them being reason enough for banning you from using avatars. Like I said, I will not play the "remove the avatar"-game in a case like this, it's pointless.
Jeez, didn't you read the PM I sent you. It's all there!
Yes, I read it. I had nothing really meaningful to say, because I've no intention on backing down on this. Answering was not very high on my list of priorities because of that, and the fact that I'm quite busy.
My main point: Why does this have to be permanent?
Because of the size of the avatars, and obvious intention to break/ignore the rules you were aware of.

Well actually, placing them as our avatars was in fact my idea. Aaanyways, I had no idea you would take this so seriously Jari. I probably should've known better than to play with fire while wearing a gasoline-soaked jumpsuit. And by that I mean to pull a mindless practical joke and having mofokubik tag along. Sure it wasn't neccesary to warn us about rules we're aware of. But it is neccesary to warn people about punishment for breaking the rules. And that, my friend, is where I feel you're in the wrong in this situation. Sure, to enforce the rules it is quite helpful to have a scapegoat, but it's not exactly worthwile when the reason is seemingly for personal reasons (your beef with Mofokubik).
