I've struggled with installing this mod for the better part of 5 days now. Got so. Agonisingly. Close yesterday.
This morning, I finally found my problem- a movie file was out of place and missing from the program files on the drive I have the game on. Simple fix. There was a second movie missing as well. Another simple fix. Tried the game again, and it said it was missing the file ff7input.cfg

This file is not in the Big List of Mods- does anyone know where it is? I can get through the intro video (very nice, by the way, did you guys make that too?) and the eidos.avi, but after that I get the New Game/Continue and can't move the cursor. It's here that the error message pops up telling me what file I'm inevitably missing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

reEDIT: I lied, I actually haven't found the solution. Time for more internet-digging, I guess. This is getting exhausting.

P.S. First post!

Alright, this might be a bit sketchy on facts but hopefully should solve the problem. The ff7input.cfg is a file that saves your settings in Config (things like custom button layout, sound, etc). It's not a mod file, it's something that the game makes. Far as I know, that should get created when you play the game for the first time. My usual routine for a fresh install of the game is to start a new game, set my button layout in Config of the in-game menu, and then play until the first save point. Then I make a save file in the first slot of every...uh, slot (there's ten, 0-9).

That seems to get things sorted as far as the ff7input.cfg is concerned. But I'm pretty sure that a missing ff7input.cfg doesn't cause the game to not start up or crash though, so if the game is still crashing then the problem might be elsewhere.

See, I was thinking a similar thing. This file is in charge of saved settings and whatnot, it shouldn't be causing my game to not run.. But here it is, right in the APP.LOG

ERROR: could not open file D:\FINAL FANTASY VII\ff7input.cfg

I'm out of ideas..

Sega Chief is correct about ff7input.cfg, but this is not causing your game to crash. There is another issue. Please post your APP.log in code tags by pressing the hashtag sign above the text box when writing a post and copy/pasting in the whole thing.

Oh, your issue is not being able to control the menu?  ::) I thought you were experiencing crashes. The default controls are numberpad.

No, I can get to the menu just fine. I found the up/down buttons even though my laptop doesn't have a numpad- but what is the select/choose button? It doesn't seem to exist.  :?

you should also be able to use a controller and never have to touch the numpad. i personally use a ps2 to usb convertor and a playstation 2 controller; any usb controller should work.

turns out, I had, like, 8 .exe files I hadn't run yet. So.. oops. anyway, game is up and running! Any passing mod, close this thread, por favor!
