Hey there,

Firstly, I just wanted to say thanks for the easy installation of FF7music. Made my day much easier. But, although I did get FF7music to work, I've encountered a small problem. Believe or not, there are a few of the original Midi songs (Fighting and Fanfare, to be exact) that I'd prefer to have playing as oppose to their minipsf counterparts. I tried removing those two minipsf files and enabled the "maximise midi on song not found" option in FF7music, but instead of the midi files playing, there is only silence. Every other sound (music and SFX) work just fine.

Is there anyway to have those two midi files playing, instead of the silence?

Unfortunately, this is caused by using Aali's driver to mute midi. If you want to disable it, open your ff7_opengl.cfg, find the line that begins with "music_plugin =" and add a # at the beginning to make it "# music_plugin ="
However, if you are using Windows Vista or later, this will lead to missing sound effects at any point in the game where music is silent, and possibly other bugs, so I advise against it.

Alternatively, what you could do is use a winamp midi plugin, and replace those two songs in your FF7Music profile with the midi versions (which will need extracted from your midi.lgp file, which I'm not going to go into detail about how to do, as it's not my area of expertise).
 
if i may revive an old thread, i have this problem where i already have the Mute MIDI Option enabled yet i have to have the music thingy in the CONFIG menu of the game itself and that not only does that turn the sound effects off it turns off the midi and i want to have both OverClocked Remix and the sound effects going as well. how am i able to do that without hearing the MIDI playing in the background as well?
 
Part of the point of this installer is that it uses the music_plugin feature in Aali's driver. This should silence midi WITHOUT using the game's option, and without losing sound effects.

If you have installed a new version of Aali's driver since using this installer, you may need to reenable this plugin. In your FF7 directory, open the file "ff7_opengl.cfg". MAKE SURE YOU ARE RUNNING NOTEPAD AS ADMINISTRATOR, OR THIS WILL NOT SAVE. Find the line beginning with "#music_plugin" and remove the #.
 
yeah but, Covarr, i've  read through the entire ff7_opengl.cfg but i don't see a line mentioning "#music_plugin". is there another option to this or.......?
 
The line is missing entirely? Weird. Well, add this then:

music_plugin = plugins/ff7music.fgp
 
just noticed i kinda didn't read it well enough, i'm found the "music_plugin = plugins/ff7music.fgp line an at the start of it it didn't have the # but i still keep getting this fault on the main FF7MUSIC GUI saying that there's a fault in something and stil plays MIDI and Sound Effects of me OverClocked Remix.
do you doubt it's the version of DirectX I currently have at the moment or is there something that i have to change before i.........................


if there's no other option i'm happy just playing without the sound effects in the background.
 
Well, it's always good to make sure your drivers, and directx are up to date, but I doubt that's the problem. If it still plays the MIDI, then the music plugin is failing. Make sure you have the latest version of Aali's driver, v0.7.10b, and let me know if that helps.
 
maybe it's best i didn't bother, i downloaded the latest version of Aali's drive....yet it still doesn't defeat the purpose.
 
Skip to EDIT2, I solved my problem.

Argh. This is quite frustrating, but bear with me. I'm giving as much detailed information as I can, and seeing as how the problem started when I used the latest FF7Music installer, I figured this would be the best first place to post about my problem. Please let me know if I should repost this in the Team Avalanche, PRP, or Aali's Custom Graphics Driver threads.

I have a Samsung laptop with a Windows 7 64-bit Home Edition installed and an NVIDIA GEForce w/CUDA 310M graphics card and Intel Core i5 dual-core processors. I have my FF7 PC isos, and I used the install CD to install FF7 with the DirectX5.0 and DirectShow filters. Because of the Phoenix Rejuvenation project's readme file, I set the install path to "C:\Program Files\Square Soft, Inc.\Final Fantasy VII\" instead of to the Program Files (x86) folder, and the game worked as it was. I then installed the following patches and mods according to www.finalfantasy7pc.com YouTube video instructions without any hitches whatsoever:



I did also change the resolution in ff7_opengl.cfg to 1366x768 with no preserve-ratio and yes to full-screen, as well as allowing the 9999 limit break, expand battle viewport and transparent  dialogs to on, and mdef fix to no. It all still worked beautifully.

Here's where I started to encounter problems: installing the latest FF7Music executable (1.51.3). It would install successfully, but when I clicked on the Final Fantasy VII shortcut it created, it would start with the first two seconds of the Eidos intro screen and then alt+tab out onto my desktop with my taskbar and a black screen until I pressed a button. When I tried to click on the FF7 tab in my taskbar, it would revert back to fullscreen, and then back to the desktop view after a second. The FF7Music dialog box was still up as well as the DOS window. I could still play the game, but without sound effects. If I closed the FF7 dialog window before pressing a button, I would then play the game without any music or sound at all.

I managed to fix this temporarily by either just waiting a while or by spending the time making sure that full permissions were admitted for every profile for the C:\FF7Music\ folder and the C:\Program Files\Square Soft, Inc\ folder, and then it suddenly worked. But then when I installed the latest build of the FMV Restoration project, it reverted to the same problem. I figured "f*ck, maybe if I install something else it'll forget it had a problem" and went ahead with the latest FF7 Retranslation project installer. The problem still wasn't fixed.

So I retried a few times and then let it stew while I went looking around for solutions to my problem for a few minutes. Once I had gotten tired of looking, I just figured I'd try the FF7Music shortcut again and see what happened. It suddenly worked. I didn't do sh*t, and it just worked after a brief rest period.

After about 10 minutes, I decided to try again, and it somehow decided to stop working again.

The only way I can get it to work 100% of the time is to set the fullscreen option in the ff7_opengl.cfg to no, without changing the width and height or anything, and it would work. FF7Music only seems to have a problem with full-screen, but not with windowed resolutions. Finally, I did reinstall the Team Avalanche, PRP, and FF7Music mods (in that order without uninstalling), and the problem persisted.

Here's a video of me starting the game with the aforementioned problem, followed by a DxDiag.txt file and the APP.LOG and ff7_opengl.cfg files. Where the Eidos logo just stops cold, that's where the screen went black for me and the taskbar reappeared on the screen:

EDIT: Unbelievable. So, I started a new game to see the cutscene, after changing a line in shaders/yuv.frag, and then when I closed a random tab on my taskbar, the game just suddenly slid back into place and I had sound n' everything. Now that I'm trying to do it after quitting and then loading from the first save spot, this result is not repeated and I'm left with music, but no sound effects. Good lord. Maybe I should just restart and not having any other programs open or something.

EDIT2: Speak of the devil. As soon as I closed Firefox, the system was fully focused on the game and I had sound and everything. It turns out that if you have one or more more than two or three windows or programs running, like Firefox or Explorer or Word, FF7 w/the Music patch just spazzes out and defocuses when full-screen is set to "yes" in ff7_opengl.cfg, mitigating either sound effects or both the sound and the music. For some reason it doesn't like running when anything else is open. Once I closed everything, it would run just fine. No problems at all. Well, except for Cloud's mouth being disfigured, but that's either for another topic or perhaps just for a bit of fiddling with LGPTools.

EDIT3: Yeah, Cloud's disfigured mouth is caused by Millenia's Cloud Weapons mod. It's already been discussed in the thread. Doesn't happen if I use APZ's Cloud, but I'd rather use the regular battle model for now.

Weather, your problem doesn't seem at all likely to be caused by either FF7Music or my installer. If your issues are showing up on and off seemingly without reason like that, or if the number of open applications is causing trouble, then I would strongly advise checking your RAM to make sure it's not faulty.

TrueLugia121, perhaps you could be a bit more specific about your problem. If you could post a copy of your ff7_opengl.cfg, as well as the exact error message you got (hint: it's more specific than "there's a fault in something"), I might be able to provide better help. Copies of your FF7Music.log (found in C:\FF7Music\) and APP.LOG (found in your FF7 install directory) in particular would be helpful.
 
HOLY CRAP GUYS! NEW VERSION (1.51.5)! LINK ON THE FIRST PAGE!!!

Here's what I changed:

  • Integrated the 1.51.4 update. Now the full version has working Cinco de Chocobo.
  • a bunch of technical stuff. Now it works with kranmer's AnyCD, and it SHOULD work with the Steam overlay (untested).

So, there is a problem. I tried reinstalling FF7Music after a while and then I loaded a Highwind save game (which should now have the "Ride On" music from FF8) and the music won't play. "Well... damn ficedula isn't around here anymore..." I thought. Then it started after a short while and I thought "Hell yeah, it works... no more..." Yeah it shuted itself down and nothing I could do about. Here's my FF7music.ini (which I had to go after into the ficedula folder inside FF7 one even that the prog is in C:\FF7Music\)

So, there is a problem. I tried reinstalling FF7Music after a while and then I loaded a Highwind save game (which should now have the "Ride On" music from FF8) and the music won't play. "Well... damn ficedula isn't around here anymore..." I thought. Then it started after a short while and I thought "Hell yeah, it works... no more..." Yeah it shuted itself down and nothing I could do about. Here's my FF7music.ini (which I had to go after into the ficedula folder inside FF7 one even that the prog is in C:\FF7Music\)

Let me make sure I'm understanding this correctly: the song takes too long to start, and then it stops again?

Have you tried playing the same .minipsf file in winamp to make sure that the problem is not with the file itself? Also, have you double checked that your ff8 psflib file is in the same folder as the song? This is required for minipsf files to play properly; it should have been included with the minpsfs, and must not be renamed.
 
Well, if the song plays just fine in other software, then the minipsf isn't the problem. However, if it's playing at all, then the ini can't be the problem either. Are your other songs playing just fine?

What you could try is switching from out_wav.dll to out_ds.dll for your output plugin. Different people have reported different results with each one.

Edit : Yeah, different results... More glitches and no sound is playing at all. It shut itself down after a short while. Any ideas?
