Amazing! Thanks man, after ages of reading these posts etc I changed the folder properties to allow users to read/write/execute etc, but I guess it didn't save the changes to 'custom graphics' unless I went in as admin.

Genius! Thanks buddy :D

ok here's my situation

I had downloaded the music mod before (the old fashioned way without the installer) and it was working fine, then I had stopped playing for a few months and when I got back on that double playing thing people were talking about started, as a reaction I closed ff7music and just one was playing, but then I realised it was the game default music, and not the remastered tracks, but now every time I start up ff7 with ff7 music the only music that plays is the game default, and I have fidled around alot (deleting and redownloading the music mod, using this installer).
aali's custon graphics driver is definately on in the configuration.

this is how the ff7 music reads while the game is running:

as I said, when I first got the mod it worked fine, but when I closed the ff7 music while the game was running it must have changed a setting somewhere to make make it play in default, ive checked and it's not just ff7 music playing the psf files, I launched the game through ff7 music, loaded up a save waited for music to start and then closed ff7 music and the music still played, I haven't read this thread in it's entirety, so if I've overlooked the solution, just point me in the right direction, cheers

You say you're using aali's driver for sure?

open ff7_opengl.cfg and look for a line that begins with:
#music_plugin
and delete the # and save. If you're on Vista or 7, you may have to open Notepad (or your text editor of choice) as an administrator.

If the # is already not there and you're still hearing default midi music, it means that Aali's driver is not installed correctly. If Aali's driver is installed correctly and the music plugin line does not have a # before it, you will either hear ff7music, or no music.

yeah the hash is already gone, I got that much, I used finalfantasy7pc.com for instructions on instalation, is there a way to default the setting for ff7 music, I've considered deleting all the ff7 stuff and starting from scatch, but Im really not looking forward to the reinstallation of all these mods

If the hash is gone and you're still hearing midi music, it means Aali's driver is not set up properly.

I will not provide support for directions given by that site. Too much of the information there is outdated or wrong. As a general rule, I recommend using this guide for installing the game; use the latest version of Aali's driver, and make sure to run his ff7config.exe AS ADMINISTRATOR and select custom driver. From there, the installer in this thread should work straight out of the box.

Fun fact: Even if you reinstall ff7, you won't need to uninstall ff7music. I suggest simply installing from the latest minimal installer, right over the old install.

yeah I'll reinstall everything using the proper instructions and versions and whatnot, just to be sure everything is as good as it can be

cheers

edit.

ok thats a little anoying.
I reinstalled the game, patch and custom graphics driver to the specifications of the guide that you linked, and then the ff7 music installer, and I'm still getting midi, I'm beginning to lose hope

did you run ff7 config as admin when you selected the custom driver?

nope I dont think that is the issue, I think the custom driver was already saved, because when I go on the config, it's already selected, but I ran it as admin and selected it anyway, and still midi

There is absolutely no reason it should be playing midi at this point.

What I want you to do now is run ff7.exe, don't use the shortcut that comes with my installer. Do you still hear the midi?

you do mean the original launcher? if so yeah I still hear midi, and I'm not blaming your installer (incase thats what you thought) because its something I did I think, like I was saying in the original post, the remastered tracks were playing (along with the midi) but then I closed ff7 music, and I believe thats when something went screwy and made it cease to play anymore, and at that point I wasn't even using the installer, It was after that I used the installer to try and remedy it

Since you're still hearing midi even when running ff7 from its original shortcut, it's safe to assume that one of two things is at play here:

Aali's driver is not working at all. Unfortunately, I am not familiar enough with it to properly troubleshoot it beyond the advice that's already been given; so if this is the case then I'd advise asking about it in the proper thread.

Aali's driver is working, but the music plugin is not. It's possible your music plugin was damaged or deleted for some reason, in which case a fresh download and install of Aali's driver should fix this.
There's a thread specifically for troubleshooting Aali's driver, and that's probably the place to start. People who actually know the answer (not me) are more likely to check there. Once you have Aali's driver doing what it should and MIDI silenced, I'll be glad to help you get FF7Music working.

If you post the contents of your app.log it will tell us if aali's driver is working.

Go to your install location, you'll see the file, open it with a text editor like notepad, copy the contents here in the code tags, the little button on the post formatting bar labelled with a #.

Im trying to do this with ff7 music?
edit
if so then it doesn't give me the open with... option

the app.log file should bring up the "open with" box if you just try and open it even if it's not in the right click menu.

alright, I'm using a different computer and now it works fine, so I'm gonna assume it was a unique problem, and we can probebly just forget about it, cheers for the help anyways.

Hi Covarr,

i found a little typo in .\FF7Music\FF7MUSIC.ini (Version: 1.51.11).

Line 269: fiddle=FF7_312 Fiddle de Chocobo.minipsf
          => fiddle=FF7  312 Fiddle de Chocobo.minipsf

Did you remind adding this lines ?

 [OSTRemastered]
 mogu=03 - Highwind Takes To The Skies.ogg
nointro=05 - Those Chosen By The Planet - No Intro.ogg
