Okay. In the advent of all these new patches (I mean, you can no longer count how many there are out there...), I discovered something that no one's apparently done anything about...

Personally, I think that spells like Fire2, Ice2, and others look really bad. I mean, Fire2? I think Fira sounds a lot cooler. So, in a day, I managed to rid the game of spells like that. Henceforth, I present this patch:

http://files.filefront.com/New_Spell_Patch2rar/;5092818;;/fileinfo.html

I have future plans of editing the weapons and stuff, making them different, giving them descriptions, etc., and I'll do that, if people are interested.

Why would he need screen shots?  There's no point, you know what it does.  And it's not like it's a new model or anything.

By the way, good idea, I think i'll use it.

EDIT

Okay... It didn't work for me Fire2 is still Fire2 and stuff.

You can easily do it on your own to, just open cosmo from ficedula (thanks, fice) and open the "Internal Editor".
there you can edit nearly every text in battles and menu.

^Above poster is right. The reason I made a patch out of it, is because it took me awhile to fiddle with Cosmo to get it working right, and sometimes it made my FF7 crash, so I wanted to let other posters avoid the hassle. I realize right now I need to work with it, but in the meantime, if you'd like to do it yourself, be my guest.

Could you host it somewhere else? I can't download from Rapidshare (F***heads) I would greatly appreciate it :-)

EDIT: If you want to manually create this modifiication, then follow these steps:

1) Download ficedula's Cosmo and ficedula.dll...all can be found on the program compilation sticky. Set them up correctly.
2) Open Cosmo. Let it make it's index, and whatnot. Afterwards, if you get a dialog box, click "Tools," "Internal Editor," and skip to step four.
3) If you don't get a dialog box, report it back here.
4) Proper spell names...now, of course, you can edit them to however you please, but this is as best as it gets for modernization, if you ask me:
Fire - Fire, Fira, Firaga
Ice - Blizzard, Blizzara, Blizzaga
Lightning - Thunder, Thundara, Thundaga
Earth - Tremor, Quake, Earthquake (Quakera and Quakega didn't sound cool enough)
Restore/Full Cure - Cure, Cura, Curaga, Full Cure
Revive - Life, Full Life
Gravity - Gravity, Gravira, Graviga (derived from Kingdom Hearts)
Poison - Bio, Biora, Bioga (made these ones up...)
Mystify - Confuse, Berserk
Seal - Silence, Sleep
Exit - Exit, Remove (I think Remove is here...)
Barrier - Barrier, Magic Barrier, Reflect, Wall
Comet - Comet, Meteo
Time - Haste, Slow, Stop
Destruct - DeBarrier, Dispel, Death
Contain - Freeze, Break, Tornado, Flare
Shield and Ultima remain the same...

If I remember correctly, Cosmo's internal editor modifies one of the kernel.bin files, kernel2.bin probably.

Thanks man the new names are really cool no complaints! :-D
You rock!!!!

hey there!

Personnaly I think this is useless to change the name of spells but, I admit that I prefert these spell's name so when I gonna play the game I will surly download it hehe.

Good Work Dude!

See you

Downloaded, not sure if it works yet, but the weapons thing that you were thinking of sounds cool, make it!

Will do. I'll begin work on editing the weapons and other things tomorrow.

Nice patch.   :-)
It makes things that much more consistant with the latter half of the FF series.
I just added this extra gem to my FF7 replaying experience.
Thanks, Zero!

I tried your second version and it works great.  Some small changes do make a big difference.  Thumbs up!

Good stuff!
I haven't tried it yet, but I'm sure it'll work.

On a side note, how did you enter new character pictures in the menu and shizz?

As I have said before you guys are aweserm you are GODS, THANK YOU!!

Thanks for doing this patch it is the best thing since..... since..... FOREVER.

I am behind you all the way!!!

Loki: Go to Wuz's patches on the sticky you will see it there.

Thanks.

A quick question about this patch - I remember patching my kernel.bin before, does this mean the changes I've made to the existing file will be gone when I replace the files?
