yo peepz
im pretty new to the ff scene and i gotta admit itz a damn addictive franchise. i finished ff9 but i recently bought ff8 on pc, and it kept on crashing on the fmv where the black widow robot thing chased you to the beach and quistis has to minigun it down. i replayed it like 10 timez literally but same shit kept pissing me off. i had to lvl up to lvl 18 or sumthing to get pass dat bit. well after that, it crashed three times in the squall and riona dance fmv b4 i changed da movie quality 2 HIGH and i counldnt believe my luck it actually worked. but now im in timber and da 1st train fmv keeps crashing no matter how i change da settings. i got da latest patch and burnt da image of da disk onto my HD but no luck @ all.
i tried it on two of my comps as well, one bought in 2000 n one bought a month~ ago.

my specs are as follows:

new                                 old
p4 3Ghz                           Celeron 533 Mhz
FX 5900XT                       11MB integrated VGA
512 RAM                          128 RAM
XP pro                             98 SE

ive read bout 80% of these forums but cant find any answers and been tryin for 1 month to get past this bit. i ve just tried bout everyfin even crawled web 4 ages.

Can any one help me?

BTW can anyone tell me how i can upload my saves into this forum?

thanx

Mod Edit: Don't type in huge fonts. Thanks. - Aaron

You can't upload saves at this forum. Also, try not to use the large font size, evryone here can read normal fonts.

And for your question, i dunno, but what video codecs do u have installed?? (ffdshow, Nemo etc.) Heard a friend that couldn't play movies cause he had installed all different types of codecs.

Usually, the only thing that will cause FF8PC to crash during movies, is a scratched disk......I'd say the copy you bought is bad.

FF8PC really doesn't have any common crashes, like FF7PC does.

I suggest getting a PS2 or a PS1.....or learn how to use ePSXe. All of these options require you to buy the Playstation version of the game. But I would go the PS2 route if I were you.....FF10 alone is worth it. But then there is Xenosaga, Zone of the Ender 2, Shadow Hearts, Kingdom Hearts, Onimusha....and countless others.

I've had this problem before, in my Voodoo3 days, when it came to the low-resolution ending video that had "Eyes on Me" in the background.

And yeah, the hi-res videos worked.  Strangely enough, once I had upgraded to a Voodoo5, I stopped getting the crash.  I'm completely confounded as to why that would fix the problem, especially when the symptoms point to a disc scratch.

-edit-
Just re-read your specs, and I'd guess that you've already tried running it on Win98SE.  Well, there goes my suggestion. :P

Gah.  Can't read much of that....too...many.....shortened...words >_<

My suggestion would be to lower your hardware acceleration, it works for some of my ff7 vid problems

I've had this problem before when I was using an old cd drive (16X) and the CD wasn't being spun fast enough for the videos. I solved my problem by junking the old CD drive for a new one. (52X) I dunno but that's how I solved my problem! I could never get that far though... the drive would stop responding after 30 seconds into the intro and I would have to do a hard shutdown (You know! When you have to unplug the godamn fucking thing from the wall!) the whole system would freeze up! My guess is that the size of the Bink videos are too big for the drive to buffer in time with the processor and thus you get total meltdown.

thanx 4 the help every1
But like i said, i copied the image of the cd using alcohol software so it cant b anything to do with bad or corrupted data

another weird thing came up recently though, i used the ff8fmv utility and every single movie worked perfectly from start to finish so i happily went into the game thinking the problem was somehow fixed. but OMFG it crashed on the exact same spot. going back to watch the movie on bink video, it played for a bit longer until crashing, saying the program "has encountered an error and needs to close" , and then asks me if i would like to send an error report to microsoft. this subsequently happens to every single clip that i try to play after this crash. And when i restart the comp the bink vids work well again but it stuffs all over again when i play the game

can ani1 plz tell me wat the hell is going on?

i mean it looks like only i have this problem. when i bought my new comp this is the first thing that i installed and played. i played ff8 just after i took the comp outta the box until it crashed. >< its killing me!!!

its seems that only the games from the playstation ports to pc, crash on my comp. another example of this is 'chao legion' which i also bought recently and coincidently it crashes randomly during movies as well!!

Sure it can...IMO alcohol isn't the best for making ISO's

EIther way...Arn't we supposed to tell him we can't help if he doesnt legally own the game?

The only time I would consider bootlegging a game as acceptable is if at some point you did own the game. (Worn out and scratched discs IMO dont constitute a reason you should repurchase a game, but that is just me) But if he did download it, well man, tis a shame, thats all I'll say, as I have done more than my share of downloading music before.

But as for your problem man, even if you burned from ISO, and the disc that the ISO was made from was corrupt or otherwise not right, then the ISO will be the same.

So if I boiught, say, Hitman Contracts the day it came out, completed it, and took it back the next day.  It would be ok for me to download a copy of it the next day because i missed a weapon out. Because at one point I owned the game.

IMO Copies should only be made if you CURRENTLY own the game LEGALLY And should only be used as replacements so discs won't get ****ed up.

That wasnt what I meant, because in returning the game youre returning your license to play that game. I was referring to a situation where, lets say you buy the game, and 6 months later your dog knocks the discs out of the case and they get scratched beyond repair by the carpet, so you do legally own the game, but you cant use those discs (I know a dude that this happened to). I dont see a problem with you downloading replacements rather than purchase it a second time when you already did once and still own that license.

Damn! What type of carpet do you have in your house?!

hehe

Damn! What type of carpet do you have in your house?!

The kind that mutilates cds, trust me on that one, Ive seen it a hundred times, a lot of my music cds got the same treatment from pesky pets and little sisters over the years, haha.

Sounds like something you could kill a man with....

Have you tried running the same res movies as the ones that you're using when you actually played the game? Or in fullscreen?

Oh and by the way, there is no one ultimate CD destroyer. It depends if it's a cheap CD too.
