FF8 : Did the blocky and glitch problem fix?

Winxp SP2
AMD 64 3000+
GF6600GT 71.68

now I can get FF7 work in the right way with RiVaTuner,
At first I think blitting problem will same as FF8 but it isn't

So, could you have any solution for graphic glitch and black Block problem for FF8?

you can do nothing to solve black box problems ( at least i do not have solution for this)

How rivatuner is helpfull  with ff7 on geforce 6600.
With geforce 4 and rivatuner i was able to use special fsaa modes for ff7
with geforce 6 i found it impossible to use fsaa with ff7.

The Question asked for FF8, the black blocky and glitch problem.

Now I can run FF7 perfectly, but the problem still in FF8.


Could I use the Virtual PC to simulate this game? Could it solve the problem?
 
Virtual PC does not support Direct3D.  You could play the game in Virtual PC, but you'd only be able to use software rendering.  Chances are, using software rendering out of Virtual PC will also solve any graphics problems.
 
no.the only way how to play the game under opengl would be using a psx game and an emulator..

there is no way to use Hardware mode in FF8 and a GF 6800 'blah' (whatever model you try ^^)

you could use software mode and scale down the image on you screen (ie make it smaller than this fitting fullscreen thingy that looks creepy @ 19'' from wherever you look)... but this is no 'real' solution ^^

so far no nvidia driver solved this, and i think that no driver will _ever_ solve it... 'cause the game is just too old ^^
 
Does anyone know if this problem exists on the GeForce Go 6X00 series for laptops?  I'm forced to assume it does.

And as much as I hate to say it, this might impact my purchase plans.
 
This problem occurs on _any_ 6x00... GT, Ultra, Go... simply everyone...

I have a weird idea - trying one more time with some virtual pc, but afaik none of them supports d3d...

Perhaps FF8 can be played under unix+some win emulation? (What a pervert am I?..   :wink:)  Probably it didn't help at all, but...

If you want, you could "downgrade" your video card to something like an MX440. It would be like 20-30bucks now and I heard it just runs both FFVII and VIII almost flawlessly (with older drivers of course). Although that option does suck...

Wrapping from D3D to OGL would not be a fun (or necessarily easy) task.

At this point in time, I'm only aware of one major project for a general DirectX to OpenGL wrapper; it was open sourced several years ago, and I believe forgotten about.

Of course this is all irrelevent because it only supports DirectX 8.1.

I'm afraid, some AGP-card fit in a PCI-E slot not too well :D,
and 'cause GF6200 has the same NV4* architecture - it must be something like ATI's X300... :-?  (somebody knows about any problems with X800+FF8?)

Although that option does suck...

Of course. And if you want FSAA in your FF8 so badly - you can always try to find a PSX version and play it with emu.   :wink:

You could always get a PCI card (GeForce2 or GeForce4 MX).  :P
This would probably be pretty cheap.

Seriously, I've done it before, run an AGP and PCI card at the same time.  (I realize that you have PCI-E instead of AGP, but I don't see why it wouldn't work if you have an open PCI slot.)  In Windows XP, you can go to the Display control panel, it'll be like you have two monitors, flip the monitors around and check the "use this as my primary monitor" box on the one you want to use (and disable the other one so it doesn't split your desktop onto a monitor that's not plugged in)...  Then switch the video cable to the other card and games will use it as the display device.
 
ummm... I haven't really looked or anything. But I doubt you'll find a motherboard that has both an AGP slot and a PCI-E. A motherboard company is not going to waste money on a board with two video slots, unless it's an SLI PCI-E board
 
Hmm?  I was talking about using a PCI (regular PCI, not PCI-E) video card with PCI-E or AGP.  No reason that wouldn't work, I've done it myself with an AGP Radeon and a PCI GeForce2.

I don't forget old good PCI - I simple wasn't aware, that GF2 or GF4MX exists in this format.
At least I haven't seen anything better  as RivaTNT2 PCI in my city.
(I don't search specially for it, of course)

Having a back-up videocard is generally not a bad idea at all, and if it could help with FF8 - the nice addition  :)

i have a GF6800 Ultra PCIE, i want to play FF8 on PC. At the backgrounds i have few black blocks. I have a old GF5200 PCI card, can i yous this card to play FF8 in 3D mode without black blocks or need i a GF4000MX to do this ???

Actually, VMWare has Direct3D support. It's experimental though, so don't know how well will it work.
 
Oh my bad....about the PCI video card thing.

As for FF8...the last time I saw it run fine in Direct3d mode was with Gigabyte's Det 53.03 drivers, and that was with Win98SE and with the Anti-alasing paste and cut for Rivatuner, would get blocks otherwise.

I don't think I ever tried it with Nvidia reference drivers.... But I'm sure if you searched around the 50's you might get lucky. But the drivers would not work on their own...you had to do the paste and cut Forceware thing, that's in that FF7 sticky thread....and select FF0d (well, when I did it at the time, anyway). .

My findings should be in that FF7 sticky.

But most likely....newer Nvidia cards won't work with those old drivers.

Anyway, that's the only path you're going to find towards a solution for FF8.... You're going to need to find a video driver where the 8bit pallet was done correctly, or one that you can manipulate thru anti-alasing. I know for a fact that the drivers that were out when FF8 was released worked. Can't remember what version number they were though. 14.xx probably. But those old drivers will definitly not work on these newer cards.
