ff8 - G.F. and NPC

Hello guys I'm new here.

I'm developing whith some friends a little project and I found in this forum a lot of wonderful stuffs.

I succeeded in exporting most of the combat model and all the background images from the game and movie clips..and last (few minutes ago) NPCs..

my problem is whith G.F. models.

I found for example the Ifrit boss model and model from all G.F. you can fight before obtain them..
what about other GFs? Where and how can I extract for example Shiva , Siren , Eden etc..(I'd like export animation too if possible..)

The only thing i found are those files from folder battle:
mag184_d.dat (99kb)
mag184_e.dat (56kb)
mag184_f.dat (1kb)
mag184_g.dat (1kb)
mag184_h.dat (98kb)
mag184_i.dat (1kb)


in mag184_d.dat (99kb) i found these textures(seems to be texture for the model):
scaled.php
texture 0
scaled.php
texture 1
scaled.php
texture 2
scaled.php
texture 3

and in mag184_h.dat (98kb) i found these:
scaled.php
Text0
scaled.php
Text1
which are supposed to be textures for ice effects of Shiva's attack

well.. i guess in mag184_e.dat(56kb) there is something interesting but I was not able to find out what and I hope someone in this forum can  :|

Aniway i found similar groups of files which seems to be related whith G.F. animation:
mag186.. .dat should be Odin
mag190.. .dat should be Doomtrain
mag217.. .dat should be Gilgamesh (not sure)
mag325.. . dat Odin and Gilgamesh (i guess this is related to Odin's death animation..)

I found even Quezacotl textures but no model or animation in files related to mag115:

mag115_h.00(65kb)
mag115_h.01(66kb)
mag115_h.02(9kb)
mag115_h.03(34Kb)
mag115_h.04(17Kb)
..until..
mag115_h.20(13kb)
mag115_h.21((33Kb)
mag115_h.22(96kb)

but i found something only in files .00 , 01 , 02 ,03 ,04 ,06 , 09 , 11 , 13 , 14 , 17 , 18 , 21 (the following textures)

scaled.php

scaled.php
scaled.php
scaled.php


scaled.php
scaled.php
scaled.php

scaled.php


even in this case some files have a mysterious content for example mag115_h.22(96kb)

You extracted the archive before right? I am working on a similar project too but because of (lots of) issues like this one, I almost gave up. Until someone help me out. Well, no matter at all.

No, it's pretty good, but what is your native language?

And yes I used unmass or garden for extraction.. i don't remember atm  :-P

I'm having trouble with NPC models too..

I googled a bit and it seems to be depending by bitrun version.. the best version should be 0.86 alpha 1 but i can't find it anywhere..
I noticed that depending on the version I use i can preview different files.. no sense XD
But now I've found Texture (no model obviously) for Siren and other missing G.F.  8)

Anyway what's your project about? I'm curious  ;D

My project will be a bit more complicated  :D

We'll start whith a Demo and if the Demo will be appreciated and other ff8 fan like me and my friends will join the project we'll probably make a complete game..

It's a very ambitious project  :evil:
 
To my knowledge the GF models that you don't battle against (like siren) are contained in the .exe
 
I can't be 100% sure but I found them in battle.fs

Edit : Whoa battle.fs not battle.lgp...

Which tool should I use for extracting files from ff8.exe?

extremely difficult, very little work has been done on FF8 and tools for it compared to FF7
 
TimViewer (NOT TeamViewer) can view every texture into an executable. Credits goes to Colly.

the problem is that I'm looking for the models and I dont need the textures  :'(

I already extracted backgrounds from ff8.exe
 
I gave up about extracting these GF models  :'(

so..

I decided to start re-modeling them by myself  :evil:

I'm a newbie in 3d-modeling (just start a week ago) but I hope to learn soon how to produce good 3d models  :-)
 
How do you plan on getting them back into the game? Nice work by the way.
 
Both of this. First, Aali's driver has an option for loading textures for FF7, and secondly, I don't know if it does for FF8. Aali, please come to my rescue!

That's not my plan  ;)

I'm workin' on something different ;D

when I'll have something to show I'll post some screenshot or videos  :-)   (but there is  still a lot of work to do  :roll: )
