well I guess, maybe.
but, it seems to me, "the pot is calling the kettle black." Afterall, I'm not the one venting on the forum....
I just thought it was funny, and had to make a comment to Jari. It's especially funny, when the proof, in itself, is flawed. (Refering to "Selects a SoundFont bank" picture.) I was "cracking up" when I read this thread/post.
And besides....Smurgen, was the staw that made me put in my 2 cents....I just couldn't resist, it was just getting "too" funny.
And what's even funnier?....Elitist1 started this thread....LOL... Poor guy, he's just trying to understand how Soundfonts work on his Live! card....and you guys are "stroking your egos". And are cussing out Creative. And are in no way helping Elitist1. (and I'm the one who is rude....

Elitist1 if your still lurking....The best thing with FF8PC is to just use Samuel Slight's Final Fantasy VIII DLS. When it comes to FF8PC, it's better to use .DLS. For several reasons
1. DirectX Sound Acceleration is used, which means less CPU # crunching.
2. The patch really improves the music in FF8 10 fold.
3. You don't need to understand Sfont to use that patch...it's a simple unzip and overwrite to "so and so" directory and play, type of patch.
There is an FF8 Soundfont version here too ("Jared's FF8 Sfont"),...but then we are back to using Soundfont Manager, and using a hacked version of FF8config to select the option of using Sfonts.....if you can't get FF7 working with Sfonts, there is no need in trying to get FF8 to work with them.

It would probably would have helped if I said what version of windows I had when I said DLS files didn't work in the soundfont manager. But I don't think that Mofokubik even said anything about windows 98. But he should not have assumed that the "newest" sblive drivers will allow DLS files to load in both winxp/2k and win98.
And I'm sorry, but I have the right to curse creative. If they weren't such idiots, they would have kept support for win98 drivers. But that's just my opinion.

I don't see the problem with DLS. Them using it in FF8 leaves us the perfect avenue to modifying the music, and it is an easy installation process (like threesixty said, unzip it and it works pretty much) that can be used by people who don't even have a sound card that supports soundfonts and without any manual SF2 loading. I enjoyed this for a long time using my laptop, because its card does not support soundfonts. Seems to me that since this is a software-based solution, there would be more "loading lag," but its never seemed to me that it took so long that it was a problem... I hardly notice it.
About Creative not supporting Windows 98 - they really have every right to, as most all new computers are switching to Windows 2000/XP and more and more people are beginning to use those OS's instead of switching the other way.

Im not using anything as proof. Ruby asked me what I was talking about and I simply posted a screenshot to show him. I havent used 98 in years so I had no idea that it wasnt supported.
If you dont want me to post any more pictures, just say the word and I will never explain myself again.
What do you mean whats my point?!
I said that I was talking about something different. You said drivers, and I said liveware. Liveware is usefull to me because I dont even have my cd anymore. So I dont have any of the apps that were on it.

Gragh, you don't even need to use AudioHQ in FF8. It's all done automatically with the Microsoft Synthesizer, unless you changed something. And you have the correct files, and there's no reason why you wouldn't if you just installed the game.

A Summary would be:
Those files you found "are" Soundfonts, in a way. They are DirectX Soundfonts, and have nothing to do with "Creative" or "AudioHQ" (except maybe for that synthgm.sf2, but lets not go there.). None should really, concern you. Especially in any type of loading order, or the size....
FF8PC does the loading for you, without any problems...no workaround to solve in getting better music into FF8. It's just a simple overwriting of files, to get better instruments.
Read the bottom of my previous post..... Then just use Samuel Slight's FF8 patch; I left you a link. There should be a readme file in that download. And if there isn't, you just need to unzip the patch in the directory where FF8.dls is in.

I wasnt arguing that liveware would be able to load dls files. Im just angry that liveware doesnt exist anymore.

I just thought of an old cartoon that I saw about 20 years ago....(maybe, I should just keep this to myself....ah...what the hell, I already started writing.)
It's a picture of a woman....her hair is all messed up, she has piles of paperwork on her desk, and she's is looking up at you while, massaging her forehead. And the caption above her?
"I have only one nerve left......and your on it!"
Looks like a lot of us are at that point. But then again, this is the only time I actually enjoy reading these things. It's like driving by an accident...you just "have to" take a peek when you drive by it. And if you can actually get out and talk to the camera crew....that's even better. :wicked:

i didnt edit anything out, i put in the windowz xp part to be more clear on the subject. because the xp drivers can load dls files.

For the most part, those sizes seem correct.
However, to add to what's stated as correct sizes, the FF8.dls file should be ~9.2MB AFTER you patch it using my Revision2 DLS update on it.
I'm only saying this, so people don't look at the file size discrepency and start thinking something is wrong, LOL.
