hi, i'm new here so sorry if this has been asked before.. i've searched a couple of forums and places, but never found anyone who has a similar problem, or a solution to my prob.

when i play ff8 on my pc, everytime i enter a new screen in the game, the graphics and sound will freeze up for just a moment but it's enough to annoy. does anyone have any idea what is causing this, and how to solve it? it doesn't affect fmvs.

i use win98, and pls ask if there's any more info you need..thanks in advance!

Is your MainBord Intel (Pentium 2/3)?

If so check you bios settings and put AGP 4x and 256 of aperture size.

Did you do a full install when you installed the game?
If you didn't, it will be loading the new scene off of the CD-ROM which could cause such a delay.

i uninstalled the game and did a full install, but the problem's still there. :(

i use 1633MHz GenuineIntel Pentium 4, with 512 RAM.

It's probably normal.

Is the delay longer than the ones on FF Anthology or Chronocals on the PS2? Heh, I doubt it.

If I remember, my game pauses about 1sec between background changes. But I don't remember what happens to the music...I think that would only pause when the music would change. Pauses even longer if you use the modified file for FF8....but sounds much better.

I get that. And there feck all you can do about it from my experiance...

AHHHHHHHHH i solved it!!! i was installing Samuel Slight's DLS from http://aaronserv.dyndns.org/hosting/ffsf/download_8.html , and i quote from the readme:

   5. If your disk and/or cd-rom support DMA (try this to see if it does), enable it :
       a) right-click on "My Computer" then "Properties"
       b) click on "Device Manager" tab
       c) double-click on "Disk drives" then double-click on your drive
       d) click on "Settings" tab
       e) if DMA is not checked, check it then click "OK".
       f) before closing "System Properties", repeat step b) to e) for other drives
and cd-rom that you may have.
       g) after clicking "OK" on "System Properties" window, your computer will restart.
If your drive support DMA, it will remain checked.

Note: By doing so, FF8 will no longer hesitate after moving from scene to scene.
And also it improves a lot your drive performance in any case.

YES!!!!! this after years of tolerating the annoying pauses from scene to scene!

The FF8 music file can be found here:

Umm...if that Gain thing pops up or anything for that matter, don't click yes.

You know, I don't remember that site, being like that. When did that crap start happening?
