I own a laptop, here are its statistics

Dell Vostro 1700
Core 2 Duo 2.2Ghz
Nvidia 8600M GT
3.5 GB ram
Vista Ultimate (32bit)

My game runs correctly on Vista (well, after having spent a LOT of time fixing it) but the textures are all wrong. they are shown in particles so that the backgrounds cannot be seen almost at all, they're a mixture of pixels. Is there a solution available?
Here are some screens

Did you install the 1.02 patch? If you didn't that's the culprit, since you run on an NVidia card. Try that and selecting the Riva compatibility.

I have the 1.02 installed, and the Riva tuner won't work on my nvidia card, it says that is not supported :D

Open FFVII Configuration and try disabling the NVidia Riva option then. If it still has the problem, try switching to TNT.

Done both, no result. Thank you :D nevertheless. Isn't it possible that the 1.02 is the culprit? or the Truemotion Codec? At this point I can think of everything :D

Truemotion is just the FMVs and wouldn't affect your background textures. Try an unpatched version of the game, or perhaps ask some people who claim to be running on vista how they did it.

I wil. thanks for the support :D but, by any chance, if someone knows how to solve the matter, tell me.

Thanks for the PM...
Well, I don't know if I can be of much help.
I can only say what I did to get it to work, though. I installed it, full of course, then I applied the 1.02 Patch plus the chocobo fix... sheesh, it was a long time ago. And then I began to add the replacements etc.

Also, I had a 7800 GTX back then. Now I have an 8800 Ultra. I think I am going to install is tomorrow or so. And I'll try it out and then tell you how it works, if it does.

ohhh. looks like the midgar from 500 years in the future; all covered with Ivy and whatnot.  (error screen 2)
when i was trying to get my game working, i had similar things to this (refusal to play full screen after i used a true motion codec installer and updated my drives) and i myself didn't actually try to fix it, it just seemed to fix itself 1 day and i don't even recall doing anything to fix it.

but by chance did you PM many people to try to get answers by chance?

definitely yes. I have, tough I have not flooded them with PMs, I followed paldin's advice and asked to post, so that everyone can know about it

indeed. I shall think about fixing itself. maybe I'll have a go with registry booster.

Hm. sorry for OT, but what about FF8 Movies? It does not even play the intro (after selecting new game), tough it is a matter of secondary importance, what I want to solve is FF7

and, weirdest of all, now textures are fine. but no full-screen

Got your PM, but unfortunately, I don't think I can be of much help. My concern was getting it running on Vista at all, and it doesn't seem to have any texture issues. So really, if you're trying to get it running in the first place, my steps might help, but otherwise... Perhaps it's the 8x00 series from nVidia. Does anybody else here have it running on Vista on an 8x00 series card? Mine is a GeForce Go 7900gs, so it's the previous generation.

I'm on Vista 32 bit with an 8800. I done a clean install, patched it to 1.02, installed truemotion, changed my fddshow settings to get fmv's working, applied the saints patch, set all to win98 compatability mode and it now works fine for me, any of the above help?

I will try it as soon as the NpC reconstruction patch is compatible with the Hi-res :D

Sorry, forgot to add i have that installed aswell  :-o

I have this same exact problem. I had FF7 installed before on my vista laptop and everything worked fine. Then one day my backgrounds and text where messed up so i reinstalled. Nothing seemed to fix it. I have the NPC patch, 1.02 patch, FF7 Music, and high res patch. There isnt really a answer for this yet beside downgrading, but i dont want to do that cause i know it can work.

Sounds like maybe during one of Vista's automatic updates something happened.  If you're brave enough you could uninstall all of the security updates (using ccleaner) and test to see if it works again.  Of course this could have some terrible effects on your computer.

If it all of a sudden happened one day without you installing anything, I think that's all it really can be.
Maybe one of the technically savvy guys on here can help more.
