FFVII + Radeon 9500 == software mode ?_?

I've got an R9500, i can only play FFVII in software mode. i installed the XP fix but it only works correctly with nvidia chipsets.

is there a fix for ATI chipsets?

a friend told me it's possible to get FFVII working in 32-bit colour and better quality sound, does anyone know how?
 
The nVidia patch also works correctly for many ATI cards.  Just set it to TNT mode.

It's possible, with Ficedula's 32-bit cetra patch. However, the movies do not play correctly, and there are other strange graphical errors that do come up. You can try it for yourself....and you can get it here.

The patch is included in the "cetra 0.20" package. The package also includes three other patches: FF7music (replace ff7 midis with winamp-playable files, but not working all the way), Windowed Mode (play game in a window), and Debug Patch.

Download TNT patch, and run ff7config1.02. Because Radeon series do not have 8-bit paletted textures support, you need to check "NVIDIA" and "TNT".

If you use WinXP, you need to set compatibility mode. Then use Chocobo patch to fix ff7.exe from TNT patch.

Don't enable FSAA or AF.
 
omg thank you! ^_^ it works now ^_^ thanks a lot!! but now ive got another problem. FFVII wont respond to my joypad. and i cant set it either in the config because it wont respond.

i tried looking at the Game Controller option in the control panel, and its just hooked up and working.
 
According to Halohalo, "you need to set compatibility mode."  If by this he means set FF7.exe to run in Windows 95 or 98 compatibility mode, I don't think its really necessary.  First, it works fine for me in Windows XP without compatibility mode turned on, and secondly, compatibility mode seems to break its ability to use controllers (at least USB ones), which I think may be your problem.

Also, make sure that the controller you want to use is set as the primary controller in "Advanced" in the Game Controllers control panel.
 
Don't be so sure, Aaron. I pretty much have the exact opposite of what you said there :P

Win98 compatability HAS to be on, and all my USB devices work fine. I think the problem is maybe he did forget to set his primary controller. Forgetting about doing that can happen to anyone.

But here it is...another paradox. I just said the exact opposite of what you just said....ahhhh!!!!!! ahhhh!!! ahhh!!! The sky's falling!!
