Is it me, or was Zack supposed to die in the Nibel reactor, by the hands of Sephiroth? In the original Japanese version, this scene didn't exist at all. It was added to the NA version, and it appears as a secret instead of appearing in the middle of the story. And now that scene is official. Does anyone know anything about this?

The thing is, inside that mansion it also documents that Zax was shot dead by Shin-Ra troops.  The scene simply shows that in action.  That scene is also present in the Japanese international.
 
You're right, I found those texts in the first Japanese version too. The text did mention two fugitives. So that means the game was incomplete at the time? :?

The game is still incomplete...  Nobuo Uematsu commented that no FF had truly been finished.  Time constraints.  But FF7 definitely hadn't,  For example, the FMV showed 5 Weapons exiting the crater and it was only later that we saw all 5 in game.
 
But something doesn't seem to make sense. Well, Cloud remembers about his best friend, and then remembers that he was killed by Shin-Ra (and Cloud witnessed his death), but why didn't Cloud seek revenge? And I know that scene can be triggered before Shin-Ra is finished.
 
Cloud is supposed to be completely mixed up.  At the time in the game he is hardly even coherent.
