The (internal) format is exactly the same as FF7 (.p files) but I haven't looked at the loader or the actual data so I can't say if it's all the same.

I am going to work on my menu mod first tho...
i need to learn photoshop.

so i can replace all the menu's and text boxes with there more "shiny" PSX counterparts

Sorry For the double post.

But, I have run into a problem
I attempted to use Eight...
It can extract but, it cannot compress.
Also all the avatar's are on one texture...
how do I alter that?

My photo shop skills are lacking.
I am somewhat okay at 3D.

I want to add these images as the new avatars.... I couldn't really find anything better.

Haha. I am unsure as of what to do next.
I was messing with omega.... converting the extracted TEX file to a bmp.
i am thinking if i can change the character avatars that way... i just don't know how to insert them back into the game.

There was a tool Fidecula made a while back....
I am not sure if its still in use...
but it was able to decompress and the compress files...
i don't know if its useful.... um give me a sec i will find the link...

It's simple. By Omega you can convert BMP to TEX as well, and after it you'll have to run FF8AC.exe and compile file into the menu archive :)
 
I am starting to fiddle with it... and I tried to alter the avatars
(me and sightless are working on this together)....

But the texture for the avatars is like this...

FF8AC is like Fidecula's tools of FF7... with this you don't really need Eight...
or am I wrong?

this squall is okay... my favorite is the dissidia tho..
its just this one is missing the gun blade texture.. and.. i don't like the hair.

Now that you mention it... how do you replace avatars on a texture like that?


I have to agree that squall looks somewhat off to me...
And I think it is in fact the Kingdom hearts squall

Guess there goes my hopes of FF8 being modded. Guess i stick with FF8 on the PSX then

If you have this texture in BMP format, you just have to edit it in MS Paint, GIMP or Photoshop. After that you can convert BMP file to TEX (in Omega) and compress into menu.fs by FF8AC.exe. :) If you don't have FF8AC or some other useful programs, see here:

I am just really bad with photo shop... how do i cut out one of the faces... and replace it with another....?
 
If you are bad with Photoshop or other graphic programs, why are you taking "graphic project"? :P

In Photoshop you should open texture and graphics to replace, select graphic (by tool selected by "M" key), which you want move to the texture, and move it to the texture. It's really simple, but if you don't have any ideas on how Photoshop, GIMP or MS Paint works, you should leave it or, for first, learn PS, GIMP or MS Paint.

What's more, these beauty CGI graphics should be rescaled and after it probably in 95% will be, unfortunately, uglier than original Nomura's arts.
 
Well... This was both a learning experience and a chance to mod a game i love...
But, when Sightless_Seer left (he knew how do 3D) the project lost its 3D specialist... I was learning 2D.. I want to be able to make textures like Millenia and APZ one day.

But now, i am learning 3D as well...
Cause i Don't want to give this mod up... Now all I really need is a programmer person to help me decipher FF8 file formats
xD...
 
I know this isn't even to do with FF8 but...
What do you guys think of my very first model...... its crappy I know!

well here is my buster sword (w.i.p of course)

I had to use both blender and 3ds max

i don't know how to edit individual verteces in max yet.
Thats how i got the top of the buster sword done... the part where it bends.

Next i am going to attempt the gun blade..

Right click the model, convert to editable poly, Select the demi-circle thing next to the mouse on the right hand side (modifier panel) and then click the editable poly modifier. then hit the vertex button and you can edit verticies.

you can do editable mesh too, but it's a little worse at things like slicing when you want to add more verticies. also, edit mesh only allows you to work with triangles, wheras poly allows you to have anything you want.
