Hey there.

First of all I apologies for any mistake I might make here, not by language, as I'm not a person that browse forums daily, or even yearly.

I recently noticed a few problems with my Final Fantasy VIII pc game, and it only happens on three occassions. The game play's perfectly, no graphic, movie or sound problem so I think it isn't really game related however I do hope a couple of people would like to help me. I shall give a easy explanation on the situation.

As I've said my game runs great, however...as I have no problem with any other Limit Break...the game has big problems with Rinoa does her Wishing Star. Her casting and jumping on Angelo goes smooth, but when the screen switches to out space I get two lines, the game suddenly slows down 'as if the fps drops to 0' the music continues normal, but the animation of her Limit Breaks is well...anything but normal. I have the same problem when confronting Ultimecia, once when during fight with Griever, once when she dies 'Ultimecia+Griever' and when she dies again in her Time Compression transformation. I also notice the weird thing at the end when Squall is running in the black empty space 'before the movie starts 'instead of switching the screen you will keep see Squall running 'ending with 6 Squall's on the screen'

That's basically it, I've added a screenshot of Wishing Star at the end of that Limit Break to show the lines... I hope you can help me with this...It's something you can live with I guess, but as I'm re-creating my old SquallxRinoa shrine I kinda need a good working game for eventual screencaptures when explaining her Limit Break and the ending.

*smiles*

I tried re-installing the game
Get new graphic card driver
Tried in Wishing Star in Disc 3 and 4
Got some patches aswell...

I hope I did my best explaining.
Greetings.

P.S.: I got a HP Pavilion Elite HPE 135.be, bought this year...Aside from having short split second freezes in every game, this kinda goes beyond anything I've seen...

Use the custom graphics driver found in Projects and report back

I was hoping this would help, those drivers I mean, but it didn't. I'm following the guide, but I get either a error or those black stripes you get in hardware 'even when using FF8 Launcher that got rid of them' they appear again. Tried using without that shortcut launcher, re-installed FFVIII fully again...doesn't seem to help.

Error said 'cannot work with this driver' and once a bigger error showing a list of other drivers and even the Square 1.2 patch...which I installed to too try, but it gave me the psx graphic quality.

Hm...

Using the old Launcher available here on this forum, I had the same exact problem you describe :
tremendous slow-downs when the game tries to 'shake' the scene, creating doubles (or more) of the image on screen. This was noticeable with Gilgamesh random appearances as well, for example.

However,  I have never experienced it either with the game alone, either with Aali's driver. Like Obesebear, I'd recommend the later : https://www.ff7catalog.com/posts/78054/
Have you tried it?

Finally back from long day at work...

To reply on response, I've tried that driver and it gave me a error...I shall try again though and show you what the error say's.

I've tried the 1.2 patch of Square and it gave me horrible 'more like psx' graphic which is yukkie.

I don't know if I do something wrong...?

I'm sorry, but I'm not sure I've fully understood what you wrote : you were having this error prior to applying the patch, right? And now, you're having 'more like psx' graphics with Aali's driver working?

If that so, have you tried toogling some options on/off? For example, linear filter?

Otherwise, you'd have to ask Aali himself in the big topic about his driver.

Uhm, not exactly...let me re-explain.

I receive that error 'the image I shown' when I apply the patch you linked to me. That error say's that my game has 1.2 patch of Eidos and I require 1.2 Square patch. I tried that, and that patch gave me psx graphic quality.

So for whatever reason that custom made patch you linked won't be accepted by the launcher.

:( ... well ... seems like we're having some problem understunding each other...

In my previous post, by 'patch', I meant 1.2 Square patch, not Aali's driver. With Aali's driver, you don't need the old Launcher anymore (start the game directly from ff8.exe)

If I sum up :

game :
game + launcher : slow-down issue (picture1)
game + Aali's driver : didn't work as you had not the 1.2 Square patch installed (picture2)
game + 1.2 Square patch + Aali's driver : yukkie 'psx quality graphics'

Is that correct?

Now, you can toogle some options on or off with Aali's driver, in ff8_opengl.cfg (open it with notepad.). I would try to see  if that solves up the yukkie 'psx quality graphics', whatever you mean by that.

With psx graphic quality, I basically meant...as if you see the game on your playstation instead of on your computer. By this it really didn't fix my problem, with or without launcher I get black boxes surrounding weapons, furthest view in battle screen. I'm trying to get Wishing Star working  to test if anything is working but Rinoa's being stubborn...

1) correct
2) correct
3) correct

Ugh...games always disliked me for a unknown reason...

Wow... First time I ever see that...  Was that with Aali's driver? I don't remember having this specific problem with the launcher, at all.

Now that you mention it, yes, Eden sure used to lag a lot with the launcher. But anyaway, I was never a big fan of this GF.

Hm...double post...? I'm experimenting and posting the news....

It's without driver...only game and launcher. The custom made patch here at Qhimm.com doesn't work, the launcher nor ff8.exe accepts it.

Yes, doubleposting is not allowed on this forum. Same thing for necroposting (reviving old thread). I'm not a moderator, so it's not my job to warn you about those things. Just edit your post if you got some news.   :-)

So you're still using the launcher and you had no success with Aali's driver. I don't think that's the right thing to do : like you I was reluctant to move from the launcher to Aali's driver, but the minute I finally try it I was convinced. Nobody is working on this launcher anymore, there won't be any update, no bugfix - and there are some bugs. I'm sure you've noticed that some effects are not well rendered, like Edea cool spell to pass into the walls, and at the end of a video it gets a 1/4 format. On the contrary, Aali is working and updating his driver constantly, and now I personally think it is indeed much better than the launcher. And any bug you'll report will help to improve it further.

You should try to make Aali's driver work once again. It is much more than a simple 'patch'. As said before, it is not supposed to work with the launcher : when you have Aali's driver installed, just run ff8.exe.
I'm still unsure about what you meant about 'psx-like graphics'... If you mean that all is very pixelised, set linear filter to ON in the file I told you. There are a lot more options - for example, you can play in window mode : usefull if you want to do some modding.

I always thought double posting was one message posted twice...Hm, I'll keep it in mind for later.

I tried the patch with and without the launcher and I recieve a error msg, like the patch isn't acceptable...it's the same error in this image

http://i590.photobucket.com/albums/ss349/Ariva/ffviii2.png

So if the Aali's patch won't work then I can't fix the problem I guess...My Final Fantasy VIII pc is from EA Classics, that makes a difference? I shall try once more by tomorrow after work, I'm bit sick for past two days so need my rest. *waves*

In other forum, yes indeed. But well, terms vary from a forum to another. The forum I'm used to welcome newcomers with smileys drinking large cups of beer, in this one you'll most likely receive a warning from obesebear. That's how things are. In this one, double-posting means posting again while nobody answered your previous post.

About Aali's driver : why, by installing square 1.2 patch you couldn't get further?  :o
I thought this was correct : game + 1.2 Square patch + Aali's driver : yukkie 'psx quality graphics'

to be quite honest, you can't really blame the guy, so few new guys actually read the rules, many seem to like to troll, and its just been utter insanity, trust me guys, just be polite and make sure to read the rules first, and things will be more dandy than... well more dandy then something (i suck at jokes)

Lol.  I really wish we allowed signatures here.  This is classic.

Nah, we both know it will get ridiculous and out of hand with anime pictures everywhere and xbox360 achievements.

There's actually a reason for that, fyi.  The Rules are strict, but easy to find - there's no excuse for the number of times that they're broken.
