well, i don't expect anyone to respond to this, but i just wanted to point out to somebody that i got ff7pc working on vista, and after 5 months of being unable to play the game, i finally can again!

Maybe you should post a bit about how you did this, I'm sure there are a lot of other Vista users that still can't get the game to work.

oh, you think i should? okay then.
problem scenario A:
Problem: ff7.exe crashes as startup, solution: turn the compatibility mode off, try again.
NEW problem: ff7.exe doesn't play any movies, NEW solution: install the true motion codec updater for your drives,
new situation: ff7 now works. solution: play the game. :P

Problem scenario B:
problem: ff7 crashes at startup, solution: start by testing the different compatibility modes.
problem: it still won't work: update any drives that are used for ff7, then try again.
problem: still won't work. solution: uninstall ff7 then reinstall and install the game, but not the direct 5 or yahamah midi sound thing (you install the drive thing) then try again.
problem: ff7 now works, but will not play any movies. solution: install the true motion codec updater for your drives.
new situation: ff7 now works fine apart from the chocobo races. solution: install the chocobo mini game fix.

(these are the only 2 problem scenarios that i know of.)

(sorry for the double post)
but i found a way for ff8 working on vista. just put the ff8.exe in a different area EG: 'game' in the main ff8 folder.

I'm sure a lot of people searching the forums for the answers will appreciate this.

I switched to Vista (switched back within 2 weeks) a while ago and I also had that problem with FF8. Your solution is the same as mine was.
