ok, but WHY are you using the debug version?
i posted the link to the release version!!
use that instead!!  8)

AARRGGHH!
any way, youve got to have a full install of ff8,
then click on the new project/decompile button then point gardens to your ff8 dir, and then it will decompile ff8's data files, simple?

Fire up Garden, and drag and drop files into it, basically.[This message has been edited by Srethron Askvelhtnod (edited January 13, 2001).]

I run Garden.exe
There's no new project..
only open project/decompile/compile options...
That's all..so how?

ahem (i think you know what im going to say :D ),
well then isnt garden supposed to EDIT FF8 DATA FILES!!!!
So wouldnt DECOMPILE be a simple choice (and the most obvious!!  :x )
puff. I think im gonna have to right page about HOW TO USE GARDEN, EVEN IF QHIMM MADE IT ONE OF THE EASIEST APPS TO EVER USE!!! (if qhimm made it then its gonna be easy to use, cause it aint got no instructions!!)
:x anymore half hearted qustions about garden will be dealt with the same stiff lipped responce from me  :D! only post serious questions about garden!!

I_sense_hostility_(this_keyboard_has_NO_SPACE_BAR_and_it's_really_annoying_me._Think_I'll_switch_to_another_computer)

hmmm
i can decompile it , but how to change the text just like the screenshot by Qhimm ???[This message has been edited by ksfung (edited January 14, 2001).]

The Skillster: Heh. I agree, but you're getting a bit too angry there feller.Ficedula: Heh. Keyboard wore out?

ksfung: Heh. I'll let the Skillster handle that one. Oh, wait. Maybe he already did.

Uni machine. I just had to pick the one with no spacebar to log in on...

ok, im cool now.
when you open your new project file (which you get after decompressing ff8), you will see the projects name in the list box to the left.
click it to open the folder and you should see a data or ff8 folder appear, now keep clicking ff8>data>field>eng> (i think) now you get a big list of folders, pick one  :D
they are all locations, eg bg (balamb garden) FH (fisherman horizon), now open that folder and youll see folders for all the locations in that area (aa, ab, ac ,etc) now open one, youll see a list of files in the box in the bottom left corner, find the one with a *.msd (dialog file) extention, d' click it to open it and viola!
you should see dialog on the right.
now after editing it, (if you wanna see your changes in ff8), save and recompile ff8 data files and fire up ff8

umm.....why does garden report that it cant extract emx.obj and then when i browse no files can be selected for editing....help me
caps lock and shift not working.

Also, remember Garden is far from complete and loaded with bugs.

SO..Garden is used only for editing message boxes?
Does it have any other uses like being able to view the background or field data or 3d models of Squall and co.?
If so...please tell me..Thanks!

CKtalon: Yes, only text. Perhaps some crazy programmer will someday finish it, which would mean that there would be other features that aren't yet implemented (such as viewing 3D models, backgrounds, etc).[This message has been edited by Srethron Askvelhtnod (edited January 16, 2001).]
