Hi guys. I've seen a lot of posts about geforce and such but they never seem to help. Let me take you through what I've done thus far.

Max install
Used the 2 video patches - Riva and TNT (one then the other)
Used the "upside down visuals" patch
Used qhimm's chocobo races patch

Now when I tried the two video patches, the config kept failing me for 8-bit colours when I tried to put the nvidia setting on for TNT or Riva. Someone said something about getting a riva settings editor but I can't find it.

I know it's a bit of a drag but could someone tell me which patches to install (with links would be useful), in what order, etc. Someone did say something about geforce 4 working but not what he did.

Thanks guys

....does it work in Software mode?

And with the Riva patch the test will say ----. not fail. If it says fail, then your running real old Det. Drivers....real old.

I can't provide links...not until I get home.

But Rivatuner is the program your looking for....do a search for it...the updated program will be on the Russian site...well, it's the one that get the newest Rivatuner versions, first. The Rivatuner program can help get rid of Grid lines.....and it will allow you to use the FF7.exe from the TNT patch....although, it's better to get the original FF7.exe working, since it has less visual glitches....you would have to disable the 8bit pallet with Rivatuner to get the FF7.exe from the patch to work. The test for 8 bit pallet must say FAIL, for the FF7.exe from the TNT patch, to work. Rivatuner can turn off the 8bit palletization....it's inside textures.

I only have exp. with G2. But, on it, all you need to do is use the latest Det Driver from Nvidia, the FF7config.exe from the patch (don't check any of the Riva options), and turn off the anti-aliasing, to get Direct3d to work.

....to get the game to work....just use Software mode.

I'm having a horrible problem, I too have a Geforce 4, running at the newest drivers, and of course, I'm using Win98se... How much worse can I get? lol

Anyways, I of course cannot get ff7 to run with d3d at all (unlike ff8)

I've tried the FAQ's examples with the TNT and the other patch, but with no luck.

I have not tried the movie patch or anything else, but it seems to run just fine even in Software, I just want to know if theirs some way that I can manually override the config and put it into d3d... Software is driving me crazy!  :x

Use new ff7config.exe from TNT patch to replace old ff7config.exe. But don't use new ff7.exe.

Because you use gf4, it is no need to check "nvidia" when you set ff7config.exe.

If you succeed, you may also want to try my trick :)

I tried that, but the boxes are all greyed out, and it's stuck on TNT as the 3d card.  :x  I need to restart, but I'll see if what you said about Geforce3 and Win98 and see if it works.

My gf4ti4600 and gf3ti200 work well with ff7 under win98se.

In my case, I use unofficial tool program to select midi port for ff8. If the port of ff8 is different from another midi port I select for ff7, system will hang when I dare to open ff7config.exe :P So if I need to set ff7config.exe, I must change midi port of ff8 and make sure both midi port are same.

I finally got the d3d option to show up, but now ff7 crashes to the desktop whenever I use d3d or software...  :(

threesixty..i suppose yoru post is relaly helpful to people that understands but im so confused..i dled rivatuner...and id ont see what its supposed to help me with...i use GeForce4 MX440se it used to run but i used a SiS650 on my mobo...now that ive updated my display adapter...it wont owrk =( can ya help?

Question for those of you with problems:

What version of detonator/nvidia DRIVERS are you using?
What version of WINDOWS are you running?

That would help a TON. I've had best experience with 29.42 detonator drivers and 44.03. Those are the only ones I know will work for sure with FF7PC...at least on my geforce2. But keep in mind that win2k and winxp will almost definately pose a problem when you're trying to run the game, period. I can't even get it to work properly anymore in windows xp, so I've gone back to just using the original version of the game (1.0). Man, I hate winxp...

(wanders off into the street murmuring)

GKZ: you may want to consider instead of running the ff7 config program, editing the registry yourself. it may be your only chance.

You can find all the detonator drivers you need, at  guru3d.com

on ngemu.com 30.82 were the best...so im using them...
i use winME

i dont mind editing form the registery...but WHAT do i chagne and what do i change it TO?

that's ngemu. they are for EMULATING. FF7pc isn't emulation. it's a pc program. try different drivers, just for the hell of it.

you'll need to edit stuff in :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/software/square soft, inc./final fantasy VII/1.00/graphics/

Find "driver" and set it to 1. This sets the graphics mode to direct3d. When this DWORD is set to 0, it is software mode. When it's set to 2, it's in opengl mode, which does not work.

Set "mode" to 0 if you want to play in 320x240. Set it to 1 if you want to play in 640x480, but in a quarter screen dealy (blows). Set it to 2 if you want to play in 640x480(the best, choose this one).

I suggest you try in software rendering mode to see if this solves your problem.  If it does, it is probably an issue with your video card drivers.  You can either
 - A. Get new drivers and hope they work better or
 - B. Play in software mode (Hey, I did it my first time through the game on my laptop :P)

And of course, WinME isn't known for its awesome stability...

WinME has run ff7pc fine for me. And then I quickly stopped using it. But yes, winme blows it hard. But it should run ff7 quite fine.

....I'm not getting any of this.....

Anyway what should work:

Forget about Rivatuner, you don't need it.
Get the TNT Patch
Unzip it
Copy/Overwrite the FF7config.exe with the one from the TNT Patch
Start the new FF7config.exe.

Make sure that the 8 bit pallet says "pass".
Select the "Direct3d Hardware Acceleration" under "Renderer".
And select your "640x48 16bpp (Full Screen)

It should work.....(If it doesn't.....just stay with Software mode)

(note: If the game ever hangs, Temperarly, put it to 640x480 (Quarter Screen))

What "dun work"?

You're not supposed to set anything for driverpath or options. Forget about it. if I didn't mention it, it's not work messing around with.

..heh....I told you what to do if it doesn't work.

Maybe I should add a few steps, then.....

Make sure you have the latest Det drivers from Nvidia's web site.
Step One: Uninstall your FF7PC through ADD/Remove Programs.
Step Two: Install FF7PC, with the Full Installation mode.
Step Three: If you didn't do it the first time...Install that Movie Player, too (should be an option on the install screen of FF7).

etc..etc...etc...

Step Other: Disable Anti-Alaising on your Card/video driver.

ok when i isntaleld it i instaleld all 3 options...directx 5; directshow; yamaha sound thing

i HAD it on auto-antilising ?sp? and then i turned it off...neither worked...NOTHING WORKS...
