This is how to get FF7 running in 2000 with an OpenGL card such as a GeForce2.You need 5 things for this to work:

#1) Final Fantasy 7's Install Disk.

#2) Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 (Available Via  [email protected]

But does this get it past the chocobo races? I would try and see.

*Smiles weakly* Actually, I've been having problems just entering the Nimbelheim Inn in 2k.So far, the best solution is to simply run a dual win98/win2k boot (playing FF7 on 98), or use WinXP. (Which I hear works with FF7, but I have yet to confirm this.)

2K is a LOT more stable that 98, however, it less compatible (Both software and hardware wise) with most things. Forunatly, the hardware problems are almost non-existant now-a-days. But sadly, the software problems are still lingering.

Yea, with all the links n stuff~~Well, my OS is a Windows 98. I was just wondering, what are the extra goodies that Windows 2000 has to offer?  :D

Win2K is based around the NT kernel, not the 9X one. Basically that means it's totally 32-bit and should be a lot more stable than Win9X. Individual apps can crash, but its (supposed to be) almost impossible for them to take anything else out with them. AFAIK, that's pretty much the case.Of course the downside is that compatibility with older programs, especially games, isn't guaranteed. It *might* work. It might not. That's why I'm still on Win98 ... the stability would be very nice but I'm not willing to lose all my old games.

In fact, compatibility with older hardware isn't necessarily 100% either ... whether you upgrade yet depends how much backwards compatibility you need, I guess.

(EDIT: Damn spelling mistakes!)

I also have the problem of the game crashing when entering a battle or opening the menu screen.

Im on Windows 2000 and my graphics card is nVidia GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8X.

I have tried all the stuff mentioned above but I canny get anything to work! Please help!

Actually, this guild is really out of date.

The Microsoft compatibility toolkit version 3.0 makes it work in win2k with no problems. (Running in Win98 mode)

That and the Chocobo patch, and you should be set to go.

hey sephiroth3d, i'm extremely computer illiterate, so could you maybe teach me how to use the compatibility toolkit? if possible, screenies would help immensely. i'm a visual learner. anyhow, thanks!

sorry about that last post! i found another site that told me how to use it. but thanks for setting up this topic in the first place. i'd never have found out about the compatibility toolkit without it!

excelsior, use the edit button instead of double posting, it can cause a lot of problems other wise.

And just to add to the list up there remember to install Duck truemotion filter instead of skipping through all of it. That's what causes most of the non-playing video problems in truth (not that I would skip through that and bother people about it because im lazy  )

anyone know what to do to when you trying to go snowboard at start of disc 2 and you crasH?

Give quarter-screen mode and/or software rendering a try from FF7Config.
