Really, am I the only one thinking that this minigame has different speeds when you are plyaing it? I really have got the feeling that sometimes the wagon is fast as a lightning and sometimes way slower. Or is it just me? Sometimes it is soo fast I can't hit anything at all (ok, it is is just very fast then).

OS: Win XP 32 BIT

1 GB RAM
ATI Radeon 9550
~2.5 GHz single-core

Not only that, I find it near impossible to play and get a decent score on the PC version due to the controls. Total nightmare.

I noticed this with the motorbike mini game when you escape Midgar. I wanted to see the highway again and take some reference shots so I loaded a save from inside the Shinra Building. Anyhow, I started playing the mini game all ready to screen capture but the thing went at like double speed :S I ended up forgetting to take any screenshots because I was so fixated on not letting my whole party die :-| Probably should've just recorded with Fraps...

Besides - everybody knows the submarine mini game is the best!

Lex, so I am right about it?

Well, are the controls that different than from the PSX version aside from the missing D-Pad? I was able to get like 4800 Points several times yet, but I just fail at the very last missing scores.

i agree completely. i always sucked at that mini game even on  the psx. i just find it way harder to do on the pc version.

Is it harder even with a playstation joypad?

I well check later I am real good at it, high score was 8150 or thereabouts which is close to maximum.

At least I think it was that...  I  could have been 7800  I will have to check this.  I remember being 2 items away from maximum (3 very fast spaceships right at the end).

I hate that minigame. I wonder how arduous it would be to map mouse support on PC through one of the custom drivers...

Hm, did no one think about making a mod decreasing the amount of points necessary for the "useful price"?

Well even if that did work Bas it would not be that fun at all if you can't hit much of the target where's the fun in it?

...Does anyone know where the minigame's data is on disc? None of the files in MINI look promising.

yes thats all i play with. like i said i really suck at that game. on the pc even with the psx controller it seams harder then the psx version.

target = goal?

You call it fun, I call it frustration to have played this minigame for about 5-6 hours in a row without getting the price I want to have.

I think your getting me wrong, what i mean is it would be fun if you could actually hit the targets as in"shooting those aliens" it's pretty hard in the pc for some reason. Price point reduction does sound like a good idea as long as it's not too small

I will check it out tomorrow.  Perhaps a porting error?

This would make life infinitely better for the population of the planet. Srsly, this would be amazing.

I use a Playstation joypad.

I'll put it this way... on the PSX, I can easily get Umbrella on 1st or maybe 2nd attempt, or the Mop on Disc 2.

On the PC, I regularly come out with sub 1000 points. And I'm not bad at it. For me it runs at normal speed, but it's a bit like the D-Pad controls are far too sensitive in the PC version. Not that they were ever that great to begin with, but there is a noticeable difference.

EDIT: Just wanted to add that my recent what I would consider "perfect" PC run was only not completely perfect because I couldn't get Umbrella on Disc 1, because of this. I actually thought about cheating and slowing it down so it was miles easier, but my logic was that if I was going to do that, I may as well save hack an Umbrella into my items list.

I will go into it later today and compare the games.  There are 3 theories I will be working on first.

1. is that the game is ported badly... cant see it
 prob same code

 2. people like lex played the slower pal version (which would be easier than the 30fps NTSC version) and are finding the 30fps one harder.

 3.  the aimer moves slower in PC

or a combination.

I will test it all out.

edit:

I have tested it and the problem is the aimer.  The speed is faster but that is normal.  The aimer is much harder.  I will look into fixing it.  I think it is moving 2x too fast.  I scored 4565

edit2:  When I have tested this on PSX I will be able to easily fix it.  I think I already have.

Getting back to the topic.  OP: Make sure that your vsync setting is ON in the graphic driver as well as the config file for aalis driver and that the minigame limiter is also on in aalis driver config.

enable_vsync = yes
minigame_framelimiter = on

Can't check on my GPU settings, somehow....ATI CCC/the driver itself is installed, but I cannot find a way to open the configuration UI/application.

Dunno where exactly. I already re-installed the drivers, but I cannot open the CCC at all.
