Darkness: XP is like Win2000. Runs on NT format, no dos (other than the command prompt) which means most dos games won't work on it.

Which is why you should get System Commander or something and set up a dual boot with Win98 and WinXP (and maybe other stuff too... Linux? etc).

damn that nt-bin file system crap. i want my dos prompt. apache is so much better than IIS server.

I was actually thinking of a mac with OSX for a while becuase of it's *NIX base.

Heh... that reminds me, I gotta format the hard drive of the Mac I got at a yard sale and install OS 7.5.3 on it. (It's an upgrade believe it or not! Damn Quadra 610 runnning an Intel 486SX 25kHz  chip...)

Actually Most ms-dos games I've tried in XP run great.  XP appearently has ms-dos cd and sound driver (sb) emulation.  I ran into no probs running any games.

Yeah I've had no problems with DOS games under Windows XP.

I actually heard that a lot of DOS programs work in XP... just with no sound I guess.  There's a SoundBlaster emulator for NT/2000, I wonder if it would work in XP?

Still I think I'll keep 98 around so I can boot into it or a DOS prompt when I need to do that kind of stuff.

BBCode Start color ::Whoa::
You are REALLY working on that Post Count there Darkness...  So, how's everybody doing?

"How much does XP differs from ME actually?"

"A WHOLE LOT~~"

Duel Booting is okay in Windows XP... i have Windows 98 on a separate partition so I can play games 'cause my graphics card is not supported by XP.

heh... I did that back when I used my Voodoo2. It wasn't supported by W2k, so I used Win98 as my main OS, and kept W2k on so I could try and learn Maya. (Still need to do that...) But when I got my current Video card, I pretty much dumped Win98 and went with 2000 all the way. Now I'm almost regretting it, because I can't play my old DOS games anymore, such as Wing Commander Privateer, Warcraft 2, and my Fav game, FF7.

Half-Life/Counter-Strike has just been F*cked up too much for me to even TRY playing it anymore. I'm just gonna remove it from my system soon.

*Only* five posts a day??!

That's well above my average, and I'm the top poster on the board...all meaningfull, life-inspiring posts of course

Hmm... I probably make at least 5 posts a day.

I was away from the board for a while though (several months) but I came back when I got the e-mails (17 of the same one!!!) about it moving.  Dunno why I left... I love this board.

EDIT: Jedimark... FF7 doesn't work in Windows 2000.  Which reminds me... has anyone tried FF7 in Windows XP with the simulation mode set to Windows 9x?  Can someone say that they did and couldn't get it to work?

Aaron, I can play FF7 on Windows XP without Compatabilty Mode turned on, although I prefer to run it in Windows 98 where I have my grapics card supported.

I just got FF7 for the PC actually and I have a few questions:

1. Is it just my computer / my graphics card but a lot of the textures are bright green spoiling the game. (I can get a screen shot if ya want)

2. Bloody hell... how fast does the bike chase go compared to the PSX version!! Is there a way of slowing this down?

3. Are there any patches for FF7?
