If games were based on the man power, budget and time taken to make the game, FF7 would probably be at the top but hey, as I said:  who really cares?

I am not gonna debate politics after this post Zarnik, but the east is awash with an awful religious ideology stuck in the 6th century.  The west isn't perfect but I would rather ne here than in a country where women are treated like dogs and are stoned to death.   Most of tjhose countries like Iran/Iraq/NK are basically dictatorships and the only reason they don't do more harm than the west in terms of pollution etc is because they don't have the technology or manpower.

And I agree with your comparison of FF7, I think when you compare them fairly, there is only 1 winner.

They are both great games and I am more concerned with how much of a disaster XII was and worrying about XIII......
:-o!!!
Do not... speak ill... of FFXII!  Though I must admit, I'm also worrying about XIII here.

About personal taste and how it shouldn't be used as an excuse to throw away everything else.  I would disagree.  If I thought that FFVII was amazing in every way, but didn't enjoy playing it because the way it works doesn't suit my taste... no way would I cast my vote for FFVII.  The game at the top of the list should be the one that people enjoyed playing the most, and personal taste is going to have a greater impact on that than anything else.

And for the record, FFVII > FFX (referring to something you posted some time back).  You're right though; I think that because I'm biased.

*All the silly stuff
-Hojo on the beach, raped by bodybuilders...gold saucer. I know it's not a super serious movie or book. But I would prefer the game without all this. They could have replaced gold saucer and all that with something else.
Oh come on, that's one of the things that makes the game great  :-P

The most beloved games usually don't take themselves seriously 100% of the time. Having some funny/happy moments allows the player to bond with the characters better and feel more affection to them. FFVII does serious and silly, and does them equally well.

And if I may wade into the East vs West debate...

I can see why one might lump the Western European nations and their former colonies together under the term "West", since they share so much in common, but there's no validity to treating the non-Western countries as a single group. The only thing they have in common is that they are not part of the West; I don't see how anyone can lump together countries as different as Russia, Japan and Saudi Arabia.

Zarnik = Al Qaeda terrorist leader. Oh you could compare him to barret.

If you didn't know 9/11 was a inside job...
Lol.  I stopped reading there.

EDIT:
These forums have become quite entertaining as of late.

I must agree with you there. I've seen more drama here over the past two weeks or so than I'd seen in the nine months I'd been here before that.

But maybe I just came along to the forums during an unusually quiet period.

Seriously Zarnik, you have been watching too much loose change.  Here is a video I made in 5 minutes which sums it up:

and I don't mean conspiracy theorists as in you, I mean them as in the perpetrators such as those from loose change.  I don't mean to offend anyone by that vid, I was a bit mean with it.  Was a weee while ago

Yes I concur with obesebear and Kudistos. Wow. How we went from debating which game is greater, to how you can compare shinra to America and Avalanche to Al Qaeda.... Wow.

So you are agreeing with the doings of terrorists? I think I will take Seifer's advice from the vid and not bother debating with you.

Anyways... FF7 Trumps Ocarina by all means. It has been proven in the post.

I've always thought that this sums it up:

xkcd to the rescue again!

But Zarnik I meant offense you arrogant asshole.

I'll bet you're a terrorist.

I certainly hope you are not serious. If you are, you seem to fail to understand what the term means.

For that matter, I do agree with the doings of the terrorists; intervene in the business of others to further your own interests and eventually they'll fight back. So, the little guy can't wage conventional warfare against a superpower, and gets unconventional. Boo-fucking-hoo.

US had it coming for a long time.

This thread has gone completely off topic.  It started with an online voting thing and now it has evolved to this?

I know! And I wasn't serious lol. Sorry I should have put a smiley in lol.

Indeed it does.

I have this notion that other nations don't have business meddling in matters of sovereign nations - not because of perceived moral justification, certainly not to further their own interests, or because they suffer from the delusion of Manifest Destiny. And if they do so, payback is only deserved.

You're not the only one who has that notion.

But the 9/11 had plenty of results that could never be called positive.  There were many people killed who, by no means, deserved it.  Similarly, some people who did deserve it are still alive.  As demonstrated by the hate crimes (murder) committed against Sikhs by ignorant Americans who thought that people with turbans are Muslim.

And the few Muslims that were victimized had nothing to do with the 9/11.  Ultimately, things like this are only destructive to both sides with no positive results.  This world is on an unrelenting decline to its eventual end, which, whether near or far, is our only destiny.

Edit: Crud!  I fell into the trap!  This entire post is off topic! *shame*

what people fail to realise is that it takes all sorts but the easyest way to tell which game is better is to compare sales to date

ff7 As of December 2005, the game has sold more than 9.8 million copies worldwide

Oot has sold over 7.6 million copies worldwide

the fact that zelda has saved nintendo from bankruptcy numerious times

you also have to remember Oot was a single consol game FF7 was a multi platform with numerious releases

Fair point.  Never considered that.

And thanks for bringing the thread back on topic.
