Hello, its me CyberTech(lost my password AGAIN! lol!). Forgive me for getting off topic here, but the playstation 2 is a system, which by viewing the PS2 game "X Squad"'s files, and doing a few inspections of my own, I have come to the determination on my behalf that the PS2 runs a linux like system. This may have already been known, I do not keep up much in the gaming world anymore, infact I am on a windows box right now, only because I am playing around with a SharkPort for Gameshark2. I think though that what could really make an affect on game hacking in all PSX/PS2 related games is to get the PS2 hacked! I myself am already working on it, but I have a lot of other stuff on my hands *sigh*. I am working on getting the protocal and the such from the program for Sharkport so I can make a program for my linux box and do all this in my room instead of on my mom's Winblows box. If anyone has the time, I would really appreciate if they could find out all they know about "X Port V1.0", thats what the PS2 Uses to communicate to the USB device. I also have COMPLETELY decompiled the Sharkport program into assembly, I suggest using a program called W32/16 Disassembler. If anyone needs me:

The PS2 runs Linux. The Japanese linux system they just released gets booted using a boot CD-ROM for the bootloader (Not open source, Sony's boot system is TOP SECRET) The kernel is on the HD, but has two kernel modules, the GPU display module, and the /dev/dsp sound module which are also binary-only. No source to those either. Now, When the linux system boots up you don't have any access to the DVD-ROM or the memory cards, due to the secrets surrounding the boot system and the magic gate technology. It's a cute little linux system none the less. The HD is a standard one with the ext2fs on it. You can take it out of the PS2 and plug it onto a PC Linux box and mount the drive directly. Has X11. Oh and the ethernet adapter has a MAC address. so it looks like sony can see which PS2s are online. I've found out that if you tamper with magic gate, it will suiside the data inside. Watch out.I've heard that hackers have gained full access to the system via USB by causing a buffer overflow. I think it's a roumor.

One final comment. I've also heard that sony can update the firmware using games (During the boot of say, FF10, it also installs fermare to bypass the modchip you have inside.) Heard anything on that?

Thank you greatly for all this information(especially the part about the magic gate having a suicide mechanism, never would have thought of that). As for the buffer overflow, it may not be a rumor, its a physics law that for every action there is an exact and opposite reaction,  thus ANYTHING can be hacked =). Thank you though, I may just end up removin the HDD and mounting it, once i get up the nerve that is heheh, i am a lil poor, can't afford more then on PS2 heheh... ah well Thank you Greatly for you help

Yo I have that problem too, when I submit reply, I have to wait about 2 minutes until it is displayed with all others (and i have to (refresh) web page too, because we have a proxy cache here.
 
Erm, CT? You've posted that three times already...I'm just guessing, but it could be your browser or ISP cache is still showing the old version of the page. You'll have to figure out a way to bypass that ... or you could just assume that every time you post a message, WE can read it even if it takes your cache a few hours to catch up.
