How about the .rsd file, how does it work?

Here's a snippet of bkjb.rsd@RSD940102
PLY=BKJC.PLY
MAT=BKJC.MAT
GRP=BKJC.GRP
NTEX=0

What does the .rsd do?
And what do each of the lines mean?

.rsd files are text versions of the PSX geometry descriptors. Their only use here is to inform us of any textures a piece of geometry uses. Textures defined here are referenced by polygons with a certain flag in the .p files.

Here's something new I found out
In some, not all of the rsd files,
there are snippets like the one below from
afbf.rsd@RSD940102
# Output by SGI RSD fileset library libRsdObj.
PLY=AFCA.PLY
MAT=AFCA.MAT
GRP=AFCA.GRP
# Texture files
NTEX=0

Notice the # signs?
They descibes "Output by SGI RSD fileset library"
Not surprising that they use SGI, but does that mean all the stuff is done in the same manner? Sorry if this sounds stupid but can't help it, lack of knowledge.

Thanks for your info.I don't remember what SGI is (if I ever even knew). Is that the library that the developers for the Sega Saturn and PSX used?

Heh, you're not stupid. I am.

Doesn't SGI mean Silicon Graphics?I think Square's using SGI Workstations for their 3D rendering.

Yes, SGI is Silicon Graphics. I'm not sure what Square uses for cinematics, but I'm pretty sure it's SGI or Renderman(that's what Pixar uses).

oh i remember u now
youre the guy whose site i came across, the lightwave models of sephiroth?
hmm surprised to see u here  :D

Sephiroth 3D: Thanks for the info.

Square is a firm believer in Maya, the 3D software from Alias/Wavefront. It's been used since FF7. It seems they use SGI's for the systems, at least for those files.My guess is that "# Output by SGI RSD fileset library libRsdObj." is a comment made by the program that converts Maya to their PSX format, and they simply didn't delete all of them.

If anyone has a SGI machine, try looking for that library. It could help...
