Jenova Problems....Please Respond A.S.A.P!!!!

Did anybody ever get Sephiroth to work on Jenova, in battle he always dies....What can I do to keep him alive? An item? Something on Jenova????? HELP!
 
And..uhh..I used Phoenix downs but Sephiroth wasn't even there to use it on...he's in my party but he dies....I can't figure it out...he's just not there when I battle, I also hate the patches because it's not really him...
