Maybe we need someone who is very strict with the rules that every one will be scared to post without having good grammar.

Grammar would have to be pretty damn bad before a ban should be considered. Grammar is a courtesy to the people that have to read it, but having bad grammar or spelling is not nearly as bad as 'where can i download AC models!?! its urgent! help plz!'

So when we see something like this what is the admin likely to do?? Should they ban them fast or warn them first?? Maybe at least two warnings.
BTW I don't seem to see "death_gigas" post anymore.

so iz ban not cnt if iz yo tlk diz liek?

...what?
Well considering most of what you posted there is not even words i would consider that bad enough after a few warnings to stop.

death_gigas or whatever he felt like calling himself that day was given repeated warnings before he received a ban.

I think you guys are missing the point, go take a look at the grammar natzi thread. Sure some of the grammar sucks but it can be read easily enough. I was talking about the worst case scenarios.

Being a Grammar Nazi doesn't make you a good admin.  If I were appointed admin, I would quit my Grammar Nazism right away.

The ones that need banning are the ones that consistently stir up trouble without remorse, the ones who spam shamelessly (posting things that cannot be humanly understood counts as spamming in my head), and the ones who fail to follow the rules regardless of how many warnings they get (repeatedly necro-posting, asking for Ultima Edition help, etc.).

Not that I'd make a good admin.  I'm terrible at knowing when to assert myself and how.

^_^ man, after reading that, i broke out into such a big laugh, scary thing is, i know lots of people that talk like that -.O

Yeah same here. It's pretty sad. The members on this forum talk with enough grammar that I can understand them, but people like that I just can't understand.

[sarcasm] I guess people get their E's and A's mixed up. It's very common and very easy to do. I guess they accidentally hold shift while they're typing this as well. Or maybe they completely forget that caps lock is on. This is very common as well. [/sarcasm]

i don't think i was around when death_gigas was, but he sounds like an absolute terror.

There was also a little bit when a few threads were filled with tagalog.  That was fun...

Honestly, this thread was made just to vent my frustration about it.  If I, or anyone else, was made a mod or admin I would probably die from sheer amazement.  Thereby eliminating any use I would be :/

We actually don't NEED someone with banning power.  If we all collectively ignore the people who break the rules, most likely they will go away out of frustration.  The problem is, there are always at least 5 people who have to reply to everything so that they can either up their post count or as a way to "show off" their knowledge/wit to everyone.

See: any and every thread Hermoor was in.

Hey, quit talking about me :(

Personally I'd call for a whole reform of the forums. Put a specific area for guests to ask their lazy questions and have it auto clear up at the end of a month. Put a specific tutorials area. Basically make sections out to be more specific. The only thing is I wouldn't want is to strip the board of all it's current posts during the reform  :-\

Also to put a front page, faq, or some warnings up on the forum to use search or to look for answers etc.

Of course probably send out a mass ban email warning that if some people don't answer it they will get banned for inactivity. Not like, they've been busy for a month and don't have anything particular they want to post on. But for the users who created accounts to get a few questions answered and just left.

of course that's my two cents for what should be done besides banning, warnings, etc. Not saying I should be the one to do it. But I'd certainly would put my effort into it if I was given the opportunity. I'm online just about every day and check onto the board frequently. So I'd be able to take care of most situations fast.

Well these forums is a modder's community instead of helping to make ff7 run on my pc forums.

I think you misinterperated me. I was just pointing out the problems I see on the board being that most people come here for that reason. Yes I think it would be good to boost up stuff for the modding community. As I was suggesting the tutorials section I was thinking on modding tutorials. Thats what I mean by making more specific sections. I think that giving one section to play nice with the newbs will be worthwhile to give us a break from all the runup of useless threads they make before leaving.

I personally can hardly remember asking a tech question on FF7 and modding. Mostly I've been here out of interest in the community and to add new perspective to peoples ideas.

Oh don't worry about it. I just wanted to say that since nowadays there are more members who only join to make their game run fine and how to use mods found on the forums instead of contributing.

Although I agree an admin (or more mods) is not a bad idea and I have nothing to say on obesebear's character good or bad since I don't pay attention to these things,  I've never seen an admin get promotted after he asked to be.  On any forums.  In the last 10 years I've spent on the net.  Ever.

As for the layout of the forums I would actually leave things as they are right now except I would split game tweaking in two sub-sections : graphical mods and other mods.  I've felt for a while that the graphical mods really overshadow the other mods out there and there's only so many AC models, weapons retexture or Avatar mods I can really care for before it all starts to blend in.

I usually find the engine related mods to be more interesting to me (with a few exceptions like Team Avalanche's efforts and the NPC project for example).

Edit : I thought this https://www.ff7catalog.com/threads/2403/ would be of some interest to the topic at hand.
