Whilst trying to find the release date for final fantasy XII I found the game
"Final Fantasy VII(2006)" listed on the ign ps2 site. According to this article Japans V Jump magazine reported that square has plans for a "huge title" as part of its renewal of the FFVII brand. Note this huge title is not Advent Children or the upcoming mobile game.

the article can be found here:
http://ps2.ign.com/articles/531/531950p1.html

Does anyone have anymore information about this?

Did you check out the related article about the bus ADs?

The end of that article states:
It's possible that the ads are only meant to hype up Before Crisis and get people ready for the other Final Fantasy VII-related product, the DVD release of Advent Children.
Granted, I haven’t been paying much attention lately, but this is the first I've heard of "Before Crisis".
Clearly a prequel must already be in the works. :)

EDIT: Nevermind, lol :P. I can still hope, can't I?

As for anything else that might be going on, I can wait a couple of months before I get a 2yr advance info about it.
A cool read tho, thanks M0T. 8)

Spank me stupid, but wasnt it already figured out this game was Dawn of Souls, with Vincent being the main character?

SE registered Dawn of Souls with the trademark peeps i think. But no game has been confirmed. Of course, if you piece the two together...

Someone mentioned it before. Maybe (or Probally) Ged. No details have emerged about it yet.

Dawn of Souls is the subtitle for the GBA remake of FF 1+2.

Yes, recently the subtitle was released and confirmed to be of FF1+2 GBA.
Vincent + 2006 FFVII were mere speculations.
Although still, I think TGS might show something..

Ah yea, the GBA games, forgot about them. I still think theres another trademark they registered though

Just give me a revamped FFVII...-_-

I dont want any stupid Special Collectors Edition Final Fantasy I and II with limited edition spikey Unicorn, or any FFVII-274:Adament Toddlers, I just want a nice remake...

Im just interested to see what square cooks up for the PSP. Anyway, whenever you guys make progress, be sure to post! Im interested lol

I havent seen much from Square yet...only real thing that really has my attention is Metal Gear Ac!d...

I think th PSP is going to go the way of the Wonder Swan

1) It's too expensive
2) it uses media with moving parts == wear
3) It will massivly resrict hobby programmers
4) It will most obviously use Sony propiatory format for music and videos, meaing personal content can't be used with it.

Let's look at the GB-SP as a compaison.

1) Much smaller form factor
2) System is "open" for the most part. Even though you can't produce your own commercial games, (You have to use an image of Nintendo's trademark as a key to execute a rom.) The licence to allow you to create your own GBA games is dirt cheap. It's only $5,000-$10,000 plus you have to be at least a Limited Libility Comapny. Compared to Sony deveopment which is $64,000 just for support, the toolkit costs another $10,000 per kit. That and you have to be a full blown corporation.

3) To learn to program a GBA, all you need is free emulator, a free ARM/THUMB compiler, and if you want to get really fancy a flash kit for $250. To learn to program the PS2 for example, you have to have a PS2 Linux kit that $250 + the PS2 itself, which is another $200. Even then you are locked out of many aspects of the system incuding DVD-ROM access, advanced audio, and the root directory of the memory cards.

Sony is suffering from Miscorsoft-ism because they also own a major record label (Sony Records) and a Movie Studio. (Colombia/Tristar)  If they had these assets back when they created the walkman, they wouldn't of been where they are today.

BTW, the Sony betamax died because you had to go though Sony for commercial contentent. This massivly impacted the market for adult videos, VHS, which was free of restrictions, allowed it.

And who says p0rn isn't useful ^_^

Do you really think people are going to buy games from hobby programmers though? People say the GBA is doing so well...well duh, there isnt much competition, noteworthy anyways. Sony might not immediatly crush its competition, but I certainly dont think it's going to die away. Price is ranged from 200 to 300, but Im willing to bet money it wont be 300 dollars. Even so, you're getting practicly a portable PS2 without the games you've already played...

N-Gage+300=Rip-off

PSP+300=New handheld system in my pocket.

I dont care about the extra features, music, movies, this thing will be my main gaming device.

4) It will most obviously use Sony propiatory format for music and videos, meaing personal content can't be used with it.

It also runs on Memory Sticks as storage devices, doesnt it? Isnt is possible to just put whatever music and media you need onto those sticks? For the price of them, the regular PS2 memory card is only 8 MB, most of them are around 32 or 64 or 128+, so I really dont mind paying extra money for more memory.

The onnlllyyy thing I can see wrong with the PSP (Even though it can be fixed, but of course, with more money...) is the battery life, but even this has yet to be officially announced (Price and Battery life will be announced at TGS this month).

I have faith in Sony. They know how to play the business, they're wizards at promotion, and they have pulled through in the past...

Another advantage:
PSP: Needs a team with similar size and skills as a PS2 team == expensive.
GBA/DS: 1 programmer, 1 artist, 1 designer. And you can use those employees who didn't make the move from SNES or Megadrive to N64 or PS == dirt cheap. (Okay a lot of games will be crap, but you can make a lot more of them.)

Not to start a arguement or anything ( ) but a N-Gage doesnt cost 300 dollars :P

The N-Gage is a horrible system!!! The "three-dimensional" graphics look like half melted images of a mode7 game on GBA. The graphics are so ugly, they look like they came out of Nintendo's ass and then Nokia ate it and made it into an N-Gage game. You have to disassemble half your phone to switch games?!? Oh no. I'm not buying that crap...

Not to mention the fact that you can get an Ipaq for the same $300 and not only get better graphics, but you can get organized as well! :D

That whole thing has been changed with the battery and the game. I played it in the mall this past friday, and I must say, I was rather pleased with the system its self. Games are horrid, but the system changes are nice. PSP has the upper hand in graphics, DS looks like some N64 rehash, just like its game. You can see blurry lines and such around the characters in Metroid and other games.

For 300 dollars (Which I honestly doubt with all my heart it will be), you're getting a console-quality handheld...

Even when N-Gage came out for 300 bucks, i always saw it marketed with at least 2 games free. I love my n-gage :)

Crap, what topic are we posting in again? lol.
