TAKE THAT YOU STUPID DWARVEN ELF QUEER THINGIES!!!!  DIE!!! sorry i hate them.  their too happy looking.

the FFXI database page gave my GF4 MX 49.83 percent  :erm:
so i plan on buying a new video card soon

im thinkin a GeForce 4 Ti 4800.

H = 2047
L = 3002

Suddenly I feel my super-duper top of the range laptop is getting old now...

Athlon XP 2400+
512 DDR
Geforce4 Ti4600

3198
2473

how are you guys scoring so high? how can i make my pc faster?

Hmm... What board are you using?  What vid card drivers?  I think you should be getting better scores...

44.03 drivers and windows 98 are the reason for my scores. I would blame some bogus drivers and windows xp on your low scores in windows xp. It's always xp.

I got perfectly acceptable scores in Windows XP.  Plus its about 10 times more reliable than 98 in my experience.... Not that 98 is particularly bad.

XP isn't my preference, but it works ok. I've always had the worst luck with it, though. I'll admit that other post was a stab at XP, but in my experience I stand by my statements.

But in the end all versions of windows eventually screw up.

Darkness: are you on agp8x?

My server:

Not screwed up for a long time there :P And not acting like its about to.

Darkness: are you on agp8x?
Well I'm not, and I still got way better scores than him even though we have similar hardware...

blah my computer has been on for lets look........ 8 hours! so there! i win!  actually though i haven't had trouble with XP on my new computer....   8)

Well even though AGP8x doesn't change much for speed in my case (and yours, as you have told me), it may somehow affect Darkness. I don't think he listed his video card brand. As for me, I have the MSI Ti4200 VTD8X. Now, when I run the benchmark when I turn it to AGP4x, I get like 100 points lower than normal. So I'm not sure why exactly they say that Agp 8x is so much faster if when we can test it out on our computers and find somewhat no difference. So maybe he doesn't have his card properly set up.

As for your 50 day server, that's pretty cool. I haven't had an actual server crash that was windows related for at least 5 weeks now. The only time my server ever went down was the 3-second power outage my area had, so that shouldn't count.  :)

But by "But in the end all versions of windows eventually screw up" I meant that eventually it gets to the point where you absolutely must reinstall windows. That doesn't happen much on servers, but on computers that you are always using it gets to be a problem. Slowly but surely. Servers don't count, cheater  :P

Mine would be like 80 days, if that silly Blaster worm didn't cause it to reset :P I installed the patch, but didn't want to restart when I installed it because it would reset the counter :P

And as long as your careful what you install and so on, your Windows installation can last a long time.

Anyway, AGP8X is definately a lot faster, but the GeForce4 Ti series of cards was released before AGP8X was around.  They aren't fast enough to spill much into the extra bandwidth that AGP8X gives you.  You would notice more difference between 4X and 8X if you were running, say, a FX5900 or R9800.

I love Windows XP.. I have dealt with DOS - XP now and i must say that XP is really great.. The firs tinstallation i did was a fresh install and it sucked because i had no drivers for basically anything, but ever since that day it has been working great.. I always thought exactly what you said Rubicant that you have to eventually re-install windows.. and with XP i seriously doubt that.. That does not necesairly have to be an issue.. XP takes much better care of things seemingly when compared to my 98 experience.. I reinstalled my OS like once a year.. I have been running XP for a long time now and havent had to re-install yet..

My little POS box has been up for 9 days some hours.. I never used to be able to do that.. EVER.. I have mem turbo.. and i think that helps a lot when things get rough on my 256 MB of RAM.. My friend swears by win2k but i think XP is just as good.. to me its basically the same options .. but you can dress up XP to look nicer.. (which i dont cuz i dont have the extra resources)

Nice... upgrading my motherboard drivers took the low-res bench from 3240 up to 3900!  :wicked:

nuh uh... i have the BEST comp

L- 1110
H - 648

beat that!!! ahaha that comes from my 4 yr old comp... and not moding it (besides a little extra memory)

Windows Xp....
cant even remeber the other stuff

3155 -H
4269 -L

This is in Windows XP. A slight improvement...not by much...

I got around 2500-H in winxp before I installed my motherboard's drivers. So I'd suggest anyone who's getting lower-than-nominal scores with this benchmark, try doing that.
