Shouldn't the people on the Nigerian side have seen red flags when the name was brought up? I guess it's a simple mistake on the Russian's side, especially with their pronunciation of the word. Did they seriously think nothing would come of this? Your in Nigeria. I wouldn't buy 'Hop Sing Ding Dong Rice Paddy Fields Miso Ramen' when I'm in Japan. I would hope the Japanese noodle company would have more common sense than that. Wow... you're in Nigeria. I'd love to see more examples of PR blunders. People intentionally doing stupid things, it makes my day. :-D

It should also be considered that not everyone has been programmed to have this knee-jerk reaction to anything that resembles the N-word. (I assume their customers couldn't care less)

Yeah, someone commented that apparently hiphop hasn't reached Nigeria yet, and I suspect there's truth to that.
I suspect that they wouldn't have picked such a name if the people were aware of the connotations, but I also suspect that the word doesn't such a weight in Nigeria, either.
Otokoshi: Sadly multinationals are pretty clever and careful these days; for example Ford put serious effort when they named Mondeo... well, Mondeo. I mean that they researched a whole bunch of languages, to make sure it doesn't carry any funny meanings in the languages used in their markets. I suppose they are wary of Pajero - which just happens to means 'wanker' (or somesuch, me no habla Spanish) in Spanish. Thus, it's Mitsubishi Montero there. Then there's the Chevy and Vauxhall Nova (different cars from different eras, same model name, though), which many people claim to mean 'it won't go' in Spanish, but apparently that's bit of a stretch.
Luckily for us, some people still make them funniez. :-D
