If it isn't in place already, can you make new users (either two week old accounts or less than 30 posts or so) see a "be sure to check the FAQs/rules before posting" before they start a new topic or reply? We get a lot of pointless repeat questions.

If smf can't do it then we'll just have to live with it.

I can't comment on the feasibility of this, but I can say it will have no effect; they'll ignore it the same way people ignore terms and conditions forms. Noobs gonna noob

Or you could have 'em answer a random question about the forum rules before they can post!

Incoming first post/

How about a link to the home page?  I've been lurking this forum for over a year and I just now saw what the home page looks like.  And this was only because I was curious enough to type "qhimm.com" in my address bar.

/Be gentle :-\

PS - On another note I'm thinking of compiling that archive of downloads.  But is it really necessary to ask for permission to post links to someone's work if they themselves posted it to "this" forum?

If you are releasing someone elses work you should have their permission first.

Why hasn't anyone suggested to put some backgrounds??? maybe not flashy things. I can't really express how i would liked it to be changed. Right now it's simple and it's really nice. But wouldn't it make it more friendly if it had some ff picture or something??????  :| :|

It's annoying enough when I plaster my sig at the end of every post.
Can you imagine if everyone were doing it!
ACK!!! :o

Could always put some rules on it, only 1 image, no more than say, 450x150 or something.

Example using the one I made to match my avatar although it's 320x150.

i think it should be 1 line long and the text should be grayed out so it doesn't stand out too much and sig pictures like dragonninja's should be slightly smaller and streamline so it doesn't hog up too much space

I'm personally in favor of text-only signatures with a character limit. Back in the days when they couldn't be disabled entirely and instead were limited to just one character, my signature was é.

However, I'm pretty sure the issue has been brought up before, and always ends with "no".

Covarr is awesome 2011!

256 characters max, allowing pictures would be fine, with the option of entirely disabling them.

There is no reason for having signatures.  Feel free to make the argument you could link to important things in them, but even if you did just have helpful links, people will ignore them.   Others will fill it with things they think are funny and stupid pictures/memes, and then the forums look completely cluttered and stupid.

By all means, everyone interested in having them go ahead and post an exact depiction of what yours would be.  Who knows, maybe someone will be able to make a strong argument for them.

There's absolutely no reason to allow pictures in a signature.  But I say put them in so people could drop some helpful links that others might be interested in.
