Yeah, I know I'm stating the obvious. But seriously, people become more stupid everyday. And I'm not talking about babies.

I know some boys in my entourage whose brain is under their belt. And it's just stupid. And then one of them I knew went after some mentally-disturbed girl. Said girl is what, 14 years old? The guy in question will be 20 soon. And nobody says anything. What has this world become? Someone tell me, I'm lost here.
 
Whilst that may be silly by today's standards and jailable, biologically speaking, it is not abnormal.  The greater the age gap the bigger the issue is imho.  For example, if a 17 year old was with a 15 year old, he would be almost vilified as a paedophile in Britain, which I think would be stupid.  In Sweden the age of consent is 15, in Britain it is 16.  I think 16 is probably the best age if we want to be legal about it, but morally this question is not so clear cut.

The age difference is far more important to me when talking about 14,15,16 year olds than any man-made law.  Of course, it all depends on circumstance.  A 20 year old who was taking advantage of a 14 year old (maybe with learning difficulties) is a whole different comparison.  And 20 with 14 is quite a large gap if we are honest.  Nethertheless, by today's law you are risking jail and being very silly.

What is the age of consent in America?  18?

It varies by state.  In SC, 16 is legal across the board.  14 is legal if you're 18 (and it might also be required that you're attending the same school).
 
Before the mid-20th century, the age of marriage was typically 12.
 
It's funny isn't how how social norms have completely changed and if that happened today, you'd be chased down the street by that mob out of Beauty and the Beast.

Also, thanks for that Bear, nice to see some common sense with the age gap problem I mentioned.

Nothing has happened yet, and while that girl might not have her whole head, I doubt it could actually be anything really troublesome. The thing is, I don't really care about that girl one tiny bit anymore. Lets just say that she's [a manipulator] my ex.

Also laws are sometimes stupid. Common sense, too, is. It also all comes down to age. My mother and step-father have a 10-years gap between them, but at the age they're at, it doesn't seem wrong or anything.

When I was 21 I had a girlfriend who just turned 17. Nobody thinks thats strange here in the Netherlands and I don't see why people would. In a way, she was more mature then me. :)

21-17 isn't too bad, since 17 is almost adult. But if you were 16 and she was 12, THEN it would have been weird.

That's completely legal here and so it should be.  Even 60 with 16 is.  It would be frowned on of course, but legally it is ok.   We are talking about a girl who has a brain in her head, has reached maturity and chooses to have sex.

But then 1 isn't older. The earliest that this math works is if they are the same age, 14. People younger than that probably shouldn't be dating anyway.

keyword: should. but they do. sadly. people get all heartbroken at 12 or so, and then they say their life is over. Get over it, damnit. It's not one person that can ruin your whole life.

Also, is there a way to make posts in CU not count in the total? I know this is possible somehow with SFM but just wondering.

What I result is that there are many of us with a crazy story on our back... and I thought I was the only one going through rough times on most of my relationships. Like a youtube friend noted, "someday we deserve to live the love without the drama".
