problems with new comp?

so i got a new computer and had it for a while

its windows vista..

i wanted to start playing ff7 again and i installed it and all but am having problems... i think it installs fine but it mentions something about 16-bit colors..(which i have no idea what that is)

then after i install it and start a new game...the screen goes black and nothing happens...(everything goes fine up until i start the new game...)

what could be the problem?
