ps3 freezing..

The subject pretty much explains it all. My ps3 is constantly freezing, sometimes immediately when i turn it on, and it never goes more than 5 mins before it freezes. It doesnt matter if im playing a game or not, sometimes the disk isnt even in. I got the YLoD a while back, and I got everything working again. Im hoping this isnt the start of that again because before my little brother had it when the light came. Any ideas on whats causing this or what I can do to fix it? I guess if its bad news to tell me also ]=
 
happened to me a few years back and had to send it in to get repaired, turned out the hardrive was fucked. needed to be replaced.
 
If its the hard drive they are easily replaced. It even shows you how to do it in the manual. If you are more adventurous you could try to reflow the solder on the cell cpu and the gpu.
 
A lot of those solders are dry joints (where the solder joint is hollow). You'd think a £300+ piece of cutting-edge electronic equipment would be at least properly soldered, wouldn't you?

Mind you, I remember my new PC's wiring being a total mess, so this stuff isn't confined to Sony by any means.

ah but how then do they make money on the repair bills? haha
i had an awesome backwards compatible ps3 for many years. It started having disc read troubles, luckily the blu ray player is the most expensive part to replace. I didn't bother buying another one after that.
 
I already did the reflow, thats how i fixed the yellow light the first time around. this time im not getting a yellow lights, its just freezing. i hope it is the hdd, ill try that out today cuz i actually happen to have a couple laptop hdds laying around. Ill check back in a few hours let you guys know how it went

Well, you shouldn't have made such a mess when building it!

I just couldn't be bothered with the build process. What would I save, about thirty pounds?

Then again, considering how much time I spent redoing the wiring (they'd screwed up really simple stuff like HDD power), maybe it was time and money wasted.

£30? Multiply that by ten, unless your build is about £400.

The savings are massive, you can guarantee decent equipment (do you think OEMs are going to splash out on the highest quality mobos and PSUs when their ads are based on CPU cores and RAM?) and you get to learn about how computers work. I see no reason why a person who is not deathly afraid of or incompetent with technology would not be better off building his own PC.

Come to think of it, your second sentence makes my argument for me.
 
I have never bought a pre-built PC. Something about it just makes me wary. Most likely the fact that i do not know every single part in them.
 
It was pre-built only in the sense of being custom built on my behalf. I chose the components myself. I just had someone else assemble them for a small fee.

But do you, really? Sure, you get to learn about how modular components fit together. But that's not really learning how computers work, just their physical attributes.

You get to learn something. Personally I found it fascinating to pick out the components for my first build and put them together.

Anyway, my 486 is plenty powerful enough for me, Microsoft Bob and America On-Line!
 
Why would you NOT build you own machine? The Benefits are far to great, Better parts , cost savings, control in picking the components, etc. The only down side for those of you who use it is the cost of Windows becomes a tad more  obvious.I have never once got a pre-built, the closest thing i have to one of those is a laptop because they are not cheaper to build. KM is right OEM's  generally don't have a record  of using higher quality  parts and when they do you pay for at least a 150% markup for them. In the past 20ish years that I've been building computers they have become much easier to build.Today's computers can be built by anyone who can use a screwdriver,line up a few dots and plug in a few cables. The issues that complicated the builds of old; IRQ conflicts, needing to set jumpers for everything and manually telling the bios about your hardware no longer exist. Just about all hardware just plugs easily and only one way. the only thing post build needed to be done is install the OS that too is much easier today.
